Balance of Unicauca participation during the Sixth Forest National Symposium

Alejandra Gutierrez Potosi, forestry engineer, graduated from the Alma Mater, presented a paper based on the identification of non-timber forest products associated with oak in the town of La Vega, which contains the findings of her degree work.

Another student of Systems Engineering, Oscar Dario Burbano, presented the poster "Information System for Inventory Management for Forest Exploration in the department of Cauca."

The forester said his exhibition includes 74 products with high nutritional and medicinal percentage identified. "It is a contribution to food security which recognizes products like oak seeds, edible fungi and organizational processes of those who work with products derived from honey," he said.

Professor Juan Carlos Villalba, who participated with Professor Jenny Astrid Aldana in organizing the themed table Community Forestry and Forest Governance, referred to the role of the institution in the Symposium.

"Professors of universities of Tolima, District of Bogotá, Industrial de Santander and Cauca, signed a voluntary agreement to continue the consolidation of the Colombian Network of Forestry Education, in which the University of Cauca assumed the secretariat" he said.
