The Catalysis Research Group is linked to the Green Chemistry Project of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, IUPAC.

Alfonso Enrique Ramirez Sanabria, head of the Department of Chemistry and director of the research group, said that the institution is connected to the Green Chemistry Project in Higher Education: Towards a curriculum of green chemistry for Latin American and African universities.

The initiative, which is part of the Iupac, aims to lead changes in the curricula of universities with this academic program. "Current trends in chemistry have shown that this has implications and respect for the environment which compromises its practices, this should motivate a change in the design of curricula ", said the teacher.

The link between the Alma Mater and this organization is the result of the commitment of he Chemistry Program to the process of self-evaluation to obtain the High Quality Accreditation.  This kind of project will help the Chemistry Program and the university to have international visibility.

 

About the Research Group

Catalysis is a field that meets other areas of science and aims to generate more efficient processes in time and in relation to the product that is desired to decrease waste or have not waste at all and thus redirect changes to methods that reduce the environmental impact.

The University of Cauca along with the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia, are the first institutions of higher education in the country linked to this project that seeks to reorient the curricula of this area of ​​science towards Green Analytical Chemistry.
