Child and Youth Choir of the UNICAUCA Conservatory bring joy to Popayán’s Grandparents

La Universidad -

Popayán, Tuesday, June 6, 2017

A group of 20 children and young people, between the ages of 12 and 16, who are part of the Children and Youth Choir of the Conservatory of the University of Cauca, led by director Fabio Delgado Morales, visited the 'Divino Niño Jesús' City of Popayán to carry out a choral presentation conveying a message of joy, love and hope.

According to Professor Delgado Morales, the initiative seeks that choir members strengthen community relations and include themselves in community activities outside of the university, a key aspect for the University of Cauca.

"I like working with students on human development and that approach to different realities that sometimes are not so close to some of them, then that part of work reaches vulnerable communities, which allows us to sensitize ourselves, because for a musician it is vital to develop that sensitive part," he said.

So for more than an hour, on Friday, June 2nd, Unicaucan choristers delighted older adults with a repertoire full of bambucos, porros and other expressions representative of Colombian folklore.

"Grandparents welcomed us very happy, they expressed their gratitude for our visit; It was the most special gift we received from them. They enjoyed songs that made them dance while having fun and evoking memories. They told us about the music of yesteryear, and their memories," said Professor Fabio Delgado Morales.

Finally he indicated that there are plans to continue visiting this type of places, as well as others that contribute in the integral formation of the choir members. It must be noted that the Children and Youth Choir of the Conservatory of the University of Cauca is made up of 97 choristers.

'Choral Concert We Will Sing Together'

As part of the presentation program, this June 14th the choir will offer a concert called 'Concert Chorus Cantaremos Juntos', in the Paraninfo Francisco José de Caldas Of the Alma Mater.
