The Writing Center is a proposal generated from the Speech Therapy program and led by the teacher Pilar M. Chois Lenis. The Center began its activities on March 4, 2013, providing services of: peer tutoring, group workshops and continuous support for learning to write to students, teachers and other workers of the University of Cauca; with the purpose of providing support in the learning of academic writing from the strengthening of writing skills. This space has tutors belonging to the Speech Therapy program, who have been previously trained to perform this function.

Since 2014, the speech therapist Adriana Carolina Casas assumes the general coordination of the Center, achieving that by the second period of 2015 the headquarters of the Writing Center begin to operate on the Carvajal Campus in Santander de Quilichao, following the guidelines of the Alma Matter for the educational coverage of people in different regions of the department of Cauca. This space was initially attended by the speech therapist Diana Marcela Prado and, later, by the speech pathologist Christian Andrés Acosta. Currently, there is only Professor Prado at CE Santander, advising and coordinating all activities at this headquarters.

Between the years 2017-2018, the Biblio-therapy programs were created, initially at the La Estancia Clinic: “Read, learn and heal”; later in the Hospital Susana López de Valencia ESE Popayán, with the program called "Heal reading with the traveling book." At the Susana López Hospital, the Writing Center reaches the Adult, Pediatric and Gynecology hospitalization units, with the purpose of creating a tool that helps to cope with the stay, alleviate the particular situation and contribute to the recovery of patients, decreasing triggers generated by hospitalization and illness; objectives that are carried out with the support of verbal and non-verbal texts, textual productions, forms of expression and other playful objects as adjuncts in the treatment.

The CE's portfolio of services has been expanding with its trajectory and until now has: personalized writing tutorials, continuous support for learning academic writing, group workshops for students, advice to teachers, articulation with secondary education institutions, program of bibliotherapy at the U "Despéjate Sanamente" and writing groups for graduate students, which has allowed us to provide permanent support to people who are part of secondary and higher education in the city of Popayán.

In 2017, the Writing Center participates in the creation of the Permane-Ser program, attached to the Vice-rectory of Culture and Well-being of the University of Cauca, an alliance created with the aim of improving the permanence and graduation rates of university students, through comprehensive support processes that guarantee the continuity and successful completion of their studies. This project is focused on the entire population in a condition of repetition and / or at risk of desertion; however, through the CE, the processes of reading, writing and orality are strengthened both in the university and in schools.

Currently, due to the situation generated by the pandemic, the Writing Center offers its services virtually in the two locations, which has made it possible to reach a larger population and provide closer support to the entire community. In this way, it has reached its eight years of operation and hopes to continue supporting the entire community, recognizing the close relationship between reading, writing and orality with learning.
