Music students achieved national and international awards and scholarships.

The artistic talents of the students of the Faculty of Arts of Unicauca have been recognized in several local and foreign scenarios.

The students of the Music Department of Unicauca have achieved important victories in events that have taken place in Colombia, Quito, Costa Rica and Panama.  They took the top places in presentations and obtained grants to strengthen their knowledge in other countries.

According to the head of the Music Department, Professor Carlos Rene Ordonez, University of Cauca is increasingly projecting musical settings of national and international nature, contributing significantly in each of the events in which our institution participates.

The students Juan David Romero Urban (saxophone), Laura Galindez Melisa Gutierrez (violin) and Sergio Esteban Santiago Tovar (guitar), were the winners of the Young Performers Series 2013 Competition held by the Section of Musical Arts of the Banco de la Republica. Currently, the university is preparing for concerts during this year across the country.

Luis Carlos Erazo (clarinetist), graduated from the University of Cauca, was granted the Mazda Scholarship for Art and Science 2013 for a Masters in Music at the Conservatory of Maastricht in the Netherlands.

The student Juan David Romero (saxophonist) achieved another international award.  Juan David obtained the 2nd place in the Classic Saxophone International Competition, organized by the National Institute of Music in Costa Rica, during the First Congress Alasax that took place from March 11 to March 16 this year.

Melisa Laura Galindez (violinist) was selected in the first round of the International Violin Competition, an event that took place in Quito, Ecuador. The student is going to Spain to participate in the final round of this competition.

The student Duban Robles (trombonist) took first place in the First International Trombone, Euphonium and Trumpet, which took place in Barranquilla 1 to April 6, 2013.

The students Germán Aguirre (trombone), Juan Carlos Lagos (clarinet), Lina Rosada (violin), Laura Galindez (violin), Diego Hernandez (cello), Duban Robles (trombone) and Fabian Molano (percussion) were selected to join the Colombian Young Philharmonic.  The students will tour nationally and internationally this year. Diego Hernandez was also selected to integrate the Youth Orchestra of the Americas YOA.

During the Soloists Competition organized by the Banda del Departamento del Valle 2013, the students Javier Gomez (Clarinet), Gustavo Hidalgo (Saxophone), John David Romero (Saxophone), Bryan Casanova (trumpet), Jorge Luis Romero (Euphonium) and Orlando Bravo (Trombone) were selected to take part in the gala concert on June 12 this year.

 

Meanwhile, the student Dorian Manuel Valencia López (trumpet) was selected to be part of a symphonic orchestra with musicians from different countries in the VII International Festival Alfredo de Saint Malo, which was held in June 2013 in Panama.
