La Universidad -

The sixth edition of the event will take place from October 22nd to 29th at the Claustro de Santo Domingo. This new venue will host cultural activities centered around the thematic axis of women in literature, and the construction of memory, peace, and territory. The presentation will be held on October 12th and will feature the participation of Jorge Velosa, a renowned Colombian singer-songwriter and creator of the musical genre known as 'carranga.'

Popayán Ciudad Libro is part of the cultural project 'Cauca Territorio Libro,' which aims to build a city and identity based on memory, peace, and diversity. Similarly, it contributes to the construction of territory by seeking the recovery of various artistic expressions in the capital of the Cauca department.

In this 2023 edition, the sixth version arrives, which will be held at the Claustro de Santo Domingo, a historical and symbolic place for the university city of Colombia. This space will allow everyone to be part of this cultural event, one of the most important in southwestern Colombia.

Our event will feature internationally renowned guests from the world of literature. From Mexico, Socorro Venegas, one of the most recognized short story writers in Latin America, winner of the National First Novel Award 'Carlos Fuentes' and special mention in the 'Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz' Literature Award, granted by the Guadalajara International Book Fair. Also, guests like Juan Casamayor, a Spanish writer and founder of the Editorial Páginas de Espuma, one of the most important Spanish-language short story publishers worldwide. Juan Cajas, a Colombian-Mexican writer, and Fanuel Díaz, a Venezuelan writer, will all be part of this edition as special guests.

Like every year since its first edition in 2018, it has had a wide range of cultural programming, including reading, writing, and painting workshops, as well as panel discussions, exhibitions, and musical performances. Previous activities have seen the participation of 650 local, national, and international guests and 785,000 attendees.

The official presentation of the event will take place on October 12th at 6:15 in the evening, where the audience can enjoy a musical spectacle filled with carranga, as the maestro Jorge Velosa, a renowned Colombian singer-songwriter, will hold a discussion titled 'In Verse and in Prose with Velosa.' The activity will take place at the Guillermo Valencia Municipal Theater.

We extend a cordial invitation to participate in the scheduled activities for Popayán Ciudad Libro 2023 because regional cultural development is also part of your story.
