This December 6, 2022, the second phase of the infrastructure works of the sports complex was inaugurated, in which the University of Cauca contributed 400 million pesos and an additional item with its own resources, of 120 million 312 thousand 449 pesos.

The University of Cauca and the Departmental Government joined efforts, commitment, resources and management, with the purpose of privileging health through sports and recreation as an important factor in the integral formation of the university and recreation community for the region. In the second phase, an investment in works of $7,138,551,990 was made, with supervision contracted by the Government of Cauca for $694,786,654.

 To achieve this purpose of both the sectional Government and the directives of the University of Cauca, the second stage of the synthetic athletics track was launched with its new drainage and rainwater system, warm-up and training areas, the second section of the external enclosure, the drainage system to evacuate rainwater from the area of the stands, the jogging track, the pedestrian paths, the cover for the stands and the vehicular road of the Tulcán CDU University Sports Center were built.

"Today we put at the service of the university community this sports venue of which we are proud and we hope to open it soon to the sports community of the city and the region, because with this wonderful space that will contribute to the development of athletics we set goals and hope to achieve the dreams of the athletes who will be trained in these facilities in accordance with the standards and specifications determined by the Ministry of Sports”, stated the rector of the University of Cauca, Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, at the opening ceremony of said sports facilities, which It was attended by directors, students, teachers and administrators of the Alma Mater, as well as officials of the Government of Cauca, representing the sectional president, Elías Larrahondo Carabalí, among others, the Secretary of Education and Culture, Amarildo Correa Obando and the Manager of Indeportes Cauca, Francy Jaramillo.

The rector Hurtado Herrera stated that with this important sports field, the University of Cauca will be left with one of the best sports centers in the Department and now the University will manage the resources to intervene in the pool, which is also a sports arena that is expected to be put at the service of the region, a project that is part of the third phase of these infrastructure works that add value to the educational proposal, since physical activity is essential during the training period of young people, who learn to work as a team, to drive triumph and failure, to healthy competition and to be disciplined.

Likewise, the University of Cauca, with the commitment and participation of the Office of the Administrative Vice-Rector, prepared the designs and presented the project, obtaining the approval of close to 7 billion pesos from the General System of Royalties, resources whose management and approval it had the strong support of the Government of Cauca.

Finally, in this official delivery of the renovated sports facilities, tribute was also paid to the talent of the sports managers and athletes of the University of Cauca. The rector Deibar René Hurtado Herrera and the vice-rector for Culture and Well-being, César Alfaro Mosquera, presented six awards to the athletes who had an outstanding performance in the Twenty-ninth Version of the ASCUN National University Games, which took place in Cali, between September 26 and October 8, 2022, in the disciplines of karate do, judo and weightlifting. This emotional moment closed with the delivery of recognitions to two officials for their work, commitment and performance in the Recreation and Sports Management Division.
