Unicauca committed to the social and economic recovery of Rosas, Cauca

Through the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the CDT Vial, proposals are made to contribute from academia and research in the recovery process of the affected population in the south of the department.

The University of Cauca, through the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the CDT Vial Regional Technological Center, continues to be committed to the social and economic recovery of the affected population in the municipality of Rosas after the landslide that took place on January 9 of 2023 and that affected about 230 families in 13 villages of this region in the south of the department of Cauca.

“It is not only the corridor of the Pan-American highway, but also tertiary roads such as the one that is currently being used to give traffic to light vehicles. So, there is an opportunity where as a university we can support with the guidance of the Rector and the guidelines of the dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering”, explained Jaime Rafael Obando, professor and director of the CDT Vial Regional Technological Center of our Alma Mater.

The teacher referred to the situation in the Colombian Southwest and especially the department of Cauca, which has been going through a strong winter wave since 2022 that leaves many populations affected and, now, the Pan-American highway corridor. "It is a complex situation to resolve, because there are many technical and logistical aspects to be resolved, which is not only bringing machinery to the affected area, but due to the magnitude of the landslide we are talking about 9 million cubic meters that they slipped."

“Reaching the community is part of the effort of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. We are fully available as professors as long as we continue with the support policy, so we can create synergy with other faculties to reach the community," said the professor from the Universidad del Cauca.
