Unicauca hosts picture exhibition, 'Colombia and the Netherlands, colors and contrasts'

La Universidad -

The activity is carried out under the coordination of the Social Communication Program, and is part of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the European Union.

'Colombia and the Netherlands, colors and contrasts', is an exhibition by the Dutch photographer Fetze Weerstra, which was installed from the 8th to the 11th of May 2017 at the Administrative and Academic Vice-president's building entrance, located at 4th street Nº 5-30, in the Historical Center of Popayán.

As part of this activity, on Tuesday evening, May 9th, in the building's auditorium, a conversation was held with the exhibition's author, which was attended by students, teachers and the general community.

With the photographic exhibition, the Netherlands Embassy in Colombia wants colombians to experience a little bit about Holland, its colors, landscapes, daily life, and at the same time contrast them with the exuberance, intensity and diversity of Colombia . All seen through the lens of the photographer Fetze Weerstra, who considers both countries as his home.

"Being able to break stereotypes: that's what photography means to me. It is a way to connect with the world and learn from it. That is the reason why I, a Dutch travel photographer, dedicate my life to portraying the beauty of a colorful country like Colombia, a country that fascinates me, "Weerstra says of his experience.

At the same time, he emphasizes that "I want to show much more than the most recommended tourist places, I want to reveal the true character, the essence of Colombia, its landscapes, its people, its culture. Through my photography I want to share with the rest of the world the extraordinary beauty of this country."

Fetze Weerstra was born in Sneek, Netherlands, in 1977. He graduated as a Master of Arts and Communication and Information Sciences from the University of Groningen with various specializations at the universities of Rotterdam and Amsterdam, as well as photography studios in the last city. He worked as a photographer and journalist in governmental and non-governmental organizations in his country, and now works in the same professions as an independent. He lived for six years in Barcelona (Spain), and currently resides in the Colombian capital.
