Unicauca officials participated in university training on healthy living

The Ministry of Health Department, announced to Vice Ministry of Culture and Welfare officials of the University of Cauca, the technical guidelines of the Ministry of Health for the promotion, conditions and healthy lifestyles in the university environment.

 

Yuly Gómez, a magister in Public Health, and official of the Ministry of Health Department, socialized the new health guidelines to the Vice-President’s office of Culture and Welfare staff of the University of Cauca, taking into account that the country is living a time of transition In terms of public policies, especially in the field of health, a scenario that favors sustainable and sustainable human development, promotion of capacities, contribution to the individual and collective well-being, produces and re-defines means/practices and norms that constitute ways of living, and that enhance overall health.

 

According to Gómez, 'Healthy Universities' is based on the principles of healthy cities and health-promoting schools, seeking to prioritize initiatives to promote a healthy environment, as well as strategies for changing individual and collective habits.

 

He added that changes in lifestyle increase the risk of chronic diseases generated by different causes, among others, the environment, socioeconomic difficult conditions, mass consumption, and technological development, which have led to new unhealthy life habits, including, a sedentary lifestyle, obesity and smoking.

 

Likewise, the expert referred to the Decennial Public Health Plan 2012-2021 (PDSP) which, through the 'Healthy Living and Non - Communicable Conditions' dimension, seeks not only to improve processes for the provision of services of prevalent chronic conditions, but also intervenes through the modes component, conditions and lifestyles, social determinants that favor healthy environments.

 

He cited, for example, that healthy lifestyles in universities should also address mental, oral, visual and auditory health, guiding the joint work between the educational entity and the university community, in order to favor a choice and make responsible decisions regarding the educational community health, in the aforementioned environment.

 

Finally, the Ministry of Health of Cauca official, stressed that the Vice Ministry of Culture and Welfare of the University of Cauca, is promoting healthy lifestyles and physical, psychological and social well-being and has understood health as a positive, inclusive concept and a determinant in each individual's quality of life, which affects a healthier university generation.
