Unicauca is part of the Colombian Space Commission, (Comisión Colombiana del Espacio - CCE)

A group of students and professors of the Alma Mater, who have a passionate for astronomy, contribute to the optimization of this science in our country.

The CCE was created by the Presidential Decree 2442 of 2006 and has the Association for the Promotion and Development of Astronomy - Aida as part of its functional structure.

On February 19, the CCE held a the meeting to establish the structure composed of seven groups, which include the Group of Astronautics, Astronomy and Aerospace Medicine, led by the Committee on Space Affairs of the Colombian Air Force and 25 higher education institutions, including the University of Cauca.

According to the Director of AIDA, Mg. Ivan Enrique Paz, the goal of CCE is to optimize the contribution of space science and technology to the social, economic and cultural development of Colombia.  Seeking applications in solving national problems, strengthening the state, academic and productive sectors as well as in sustainable development and competitiveness.

"Taking into account the contributions that astronomers, professional astrophysicists and teachers of universities that advance activities in the astronomical area in our country make, the expectations, goals, projects and commitments relating to this subject in Colombia we will established " said professor and director of the university community.

AIDA is a group composed of students, teachers and researchers from the University of Cauca whose purpose is to promote interest in astronomy through outreach to the university community and society in general.
