Unicauca physiotherapists deliver special suits for care in the COVID - 19 rooms in Popayán

As a result of the campaign to provide hospital material to health professionals, physiotherapists from the University of Cauca distributed 107 uniforms in the areas of respiratory therapy and physiotherapy in hospital care centers in Popayán.

In development of the campaign led by the professor at the University of Cauca, Adriana Guzmán Velasco, the physiotherapists Iván Chavarro, Alexander Peña and Daniela Amaya, delivered 107 uniforms that were obtained with resources from citizen donations, for the protection of respiratory therapists from the different clinics and hospitals in Popayán.

 

The physiotherapist Iván Chavarro, who works in the intermediate care unit of a hospital care center in Popayán, indicated that it is a valuable aid in the commitment to mitigate the biosecurity risk that daily health personnel face that treats coronavirus cases without the required supplies.

 

He thanked the initiative led by the teacher Adriana Guzmán Velasco, who, knowing the lack of these biosafety elements, carried out a donation campaign with friends and on social networks to get uniforms, face masks and other elements necessary to fight the pandemic.

 

The company Soluciones Textiles de Occidente, Solutexo, from the Business Administration graduate Andrés Mauricio Sánchez, made uniforms and face masks for health professionals who work especially in the ICU of the San José University Hospital.

"Although the institutions where we work are providing us with these elements, as physiotherapists who are in the front line, we require extra help, so Professor Adriana collaborated with us to obtain a jumpsuit, an integral in anti-fluid fabric, that helps us in the protection of our work, ”indicated the health professional, Iván Chavarro.

 

For his part, Alexander Peña, a teacher in the Physiotherapy program, explained that this social sensitivity campaign is aimed at health professionals and staff working in respiratory therapy and physical therapy.

 

The 107 uniforms that were obtained with campaign resources will be distributed in the respiratory and physical therapy areas of the La Estancia, Santa Gracia clinics and the San José and Susana López Hospitals in Valencia. The full-face mono uniforms are designed to cover the entire skin and avoid contact with the outside, absorb liquids, are easily cleaned and sterilized to reduce the risk of contamination and for the coronavirus COVID -19, they are also suitable for protection and performance in intensive care units.

 

"With these suits, physiotherapists or respiratory therapists are covered from head to toe, we only leave an opening in the face and hands to keep our personal protective equipment in proper form," said Alexander Peña.

 

Daniela Amaya Vergara, a student in the last semester of the Physiotherapy program of the Alma Mater Cauca, said that a group of professionals in the area of ​​physiotherapy met, convened by Professor Adriana Guzmán Velasco, to organize by size and review the lists to deliver to the graduates of Unicauca, the special suits for their protection in the COVID - 19 rooms, in the different hospitals and clinics of Popayán.
