Unicauca professor earned doctorate (PhD) “Cum Laude” in Biomedicine.

The University of Granada (Spain) awarded the distinction to teacher Isabel Cristina Dulcey Hormiga for her work that contributes significantly to the gynecological pathology.

The professor finished her doctorate with the work entitled "The germ cell tumors. Evolution of human secondary yolk sac. Comparative study of the phenotype of normal yolk sac with yolk tumors (primitive endoderms)".

"The thesis was evaluated as outstanding unanimously, which also happened to the Cum Laude mention, awarded for the creativity and innovation, for the contributions to gynecological pathology and for a paper published in seven articles of the major worldwide pathology journals, "said Dr.. Dulcey.

The research was recognized with this distinction because of the proposal of a new classification of germ cell tumors which can explain the genesis of both testicular tumors and ovarian and extragonadal tumors, facilitating better diagnosis in this group of tumors, by increasing sensitivity and specificity.

"I want to emphasize the support of my thesis directors: Francisco Nogales, who opened the door to Spain for me, believed in me and saw the opportunity to develop an innovative proposal and with whom also overtook Pathology studies in obstetrics and gynecology, and Miguel Botella both directors of renowned research groups" she concluded.

The jury was composed by Professors David Aguilar and José Aneiros Cachaça, University of Granada, Dolores Ludeman, University of Salamanca, Juan Aréchaga Martínez, University of the Basque Country and editor of the International Journal Developmental Biology, and Rosa Guarch, a doctor from the Navarro Health Service.
