Unicaucanos present their research projects during the XI Latin American Congress of Medicinal Plants.

The event, taking place from September 13th to 16th in Armenia (Quindío), involves the participation of undergraduate and graduate students and a scholarship professor from the University of Cauca.

Twelve undergraduate and graduate students from the Biology, Anthropology, and Doctorate in Ethnobiology and Biocultural Studies programs at the University of Cauca are participating in the framework of the XI Latin American Congress of Medicinal Plants, occurring from September 13th to 16th in Armenia (Quindío).

The members of the university community are: Yordy Werley Polindara Moncayo; Adrián Alfonso Pazu Passu; Daine Tatiana Guevara Trujillo; Anyely Natalia Valencia Medina; Edwin Orlando Andrade Quitiaquéz; Laura Isabel López Botina; Isabella Gaviria Varona; Steven Maxwell Suárez; Xavier Clemente García Cevallos; Paula del Mar Bustamante Moya; Angie Camila Caicedo Navia, and from the Anthropology program, Estefani Vargas Borré along with Professor Yina Marcela Caicedo Rojas from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences.

"By assuming roles as speakers and attendees, they will strengthen, through their participation, the Ethnobotany Elective offered by the Biology and Anthropology programs at the institution. This will also allow establishing academic networks, supporting research results with commitment and social projection, framed within research lines of phytochemistry, ethnobotany, medicinal plants, and ethnobiology from seedbeds, groups, and postgraduate programs," expressed Yordy Werley Polindara Moncayo.

 

The Unicaucanos are part of research collectives such as:

4. Latin American Ethnobotanical Group GELA

5. Herpetological and Toxinological Research Group (GIHT)

6. Doctorate in Ethnobiology and Biocultural Studies

 

And thus, they present the following presentations:

1.Herbal mixtures from traditional medicine in the southeast of El Tambo, Cauca, Colombia.

2.Chemistry of Piper aurirum leaves (Piperaceae) traditionally used against Bothrops snake (Viperidae) venom in Colombia.

3.Bolívar Gallery, Popayán: a space of cultural knowledge of medicinal plants.
