University Citadel, model of inter-institutional articulation in the country

In a tour of the facilities of the University Citadel in the municipality of Santander de Quilichao, academic directors, unions and authorities of the department learned about the progress of the infrastructure works of a dream that started in 2013 and that this year will be consolidated with their entry working.

 

On the morning of February 15, the Governor of Cauca, Elías Larrahondo Carabalí; the Rector of the University of Cauca, José Luis Diago Franco; the Executive Director of ANDI Cauca, Yolanda Garcés; The Director of the Association of Municipalities of the North of Cauca AMUNORCA, Noralba Zapata, and the Mayor of Santander de Quilichao, Lucy Amparo Guzmán, took a tour of the University Citadel, an infrastructure megaproject that will consolidate the presence of higher education in the Northcaucan region.

 

It is an inter-institutional purpose that began in 2013 with the donation of the lot by the Government of Cauca and that in the second semester of 2021 will enter into operation in its first stage for the benefit of students studying academic programs in the Santander de Quilichao headquarters of the Alma Mater.

 

"It is a work that will benefit approximately 2,000 students from undergraduate and graduate programs, which will have all the benefits and advantages of accessing ideal spaces for comprehensive learning and the development of theoretical and practical research processes in their territory; which guarantees a great advance in closing gaps with social investment thinking about the future of the youth of Cauca ”, indicated the Governor of Cauca, Elías Larrahondo Carabalí.

 

The governor added that it has been a dream of North Caucans to have access to higher education, an advantage that is being consolidated in the Superior Council where the increase in quotas for ethnic communities and vulnerable populations is managed, facilitating their entry and continuity in the higher education.

 

In agreement with the Rector, he emphasized in thanking the governors who have supported this important initiative, the former Governor Temístocles Ortega and the former Governor Oscar Campo, as well as the mayors who during their respective mandates contributed to making this dream happen today a reality.

 

Parallel to the above, Unicauca works on strategies that allow access and permanence so that those who are part of or are integrated into this academic community can successfully complete their studies. "As an academy, we show facts, and one of them is the achievement of regularization in the payment of tuition, the same as in Popayán, a goal that was proposed at the beginning of the period and that with a year and a half left it was consolidated, releasing the barrier of access to higher education. We will continue working in the Superior Council to obtain the approval of new quotas”, stated the Rector of the University of Cauca, José Luis Diago Franco.

 

The university director stressed that the University Citadel is at the service of higher education, and for that purpose it is sought that other universities join this initiative.

 

Meanwhile, the Regional Director of ANDI Cauca and Representative of the Productive Sector before the Superior Council of the University of Cauca, Engineer Yolanda Garcés, described this work as an example of competitiveness that generates value to the region and reflects the purpose of the articulation government sector, academia and business sector.

 

“This is the university for the future that the north of Cauca dreamed of, it is the university that will gather the union of the business, government and academic sectors; it is going to be a center that will help us continue with the internationalization of the economy, and continue working for life, health, and the socio-economic development of the region”, the union leader pointed out.

 

The works in the University Citadel are being carried out in their first stage with resources from the University of Cauca, totaling $ 5,724,710,087; of the National Planning Department that allocated $ 2,200,000,000, and with the support of the Government of Cauca with $ 5,420,235,645, through the General System of Royalties, for a total in this phase of $ 13,344,945,732.
