Professor Claudia Patricia Burbano Astaiza, from the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports of the University of Cauca, participated as a speaker representing the institution at the VIII International Congress on Research and Pedagogy, held in Tunja, Boyacá, from October 7 to 10, 2025, at the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia (UPTC). The event brought together more than 3,200 participants and 50 speakers from different regions of the country and the world, around the central theme “Care, Teaching, and Education.”

During the academic gathering, the professor shared her research experience centered on the axis “Physical Education: Rethinking to Give Meaning to Education and Body Care.” She presented the paper entitled “Socio-emotional Well-being of Students in the Formative Physical Activity Program of the University of Cauca,” a proposal that places emotions, creativity, and art at the core as bridges to student well-being.

Her research proposes an educational strategy that integrates recreational folk dance and playful visual arts as means to strengthen interpersonal relationships and students’ emotional balance. “This experience seeks to build and sustain positive relationships with others, understanding that well-being is also learned, cultivated, and shared,” the professor noted. She added that her participation in the congress was an invaluable opportunity to “share and exchange experiences around emotional care, teaching, education, and the importance of education as a transformative act that goes beyond learning.”

Within the framework of the 90th anniversary of the Faculty of Education Sciences at the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia (UPTC), the VIII International Congress on Research and Pedagogy also hosted the II International Congress on Teacher Education “Alianza Boyacá Educa” and the II International Congress on Psychopedagogy, establishing itself as a space for critical, interdisciplinary, and ethical dialogue on contemporary teaching and the challenges education faces amid current social and technological changes.

The congress, which brought together more than 3,200 participants, 50 speakers, and 20 thematic axes, became a forum for dialogue and reflection on the challenges of contemporary education. Drawing on the ideas of thinkers such as Michel Foucault and Gert Biesta, the concept of care was addressed as an ethical and human practice that transforms teaching into an act of freedom, awareness, and transcendence. Thus, beyond its academic nature, the gathering became a space of connection, where knowledge intertwined with sensitivity and commitment to an education that teaches, accompanies, listens, and transforms.

The professor’s participation reaffirms the role of the University of Cauca as an institution that promotes and encourages engagement in spaces for pedagogical reflection and educational innovation, opening pathways toward a more humane and conscious form of teaching. From the University of Cauca, institutional presence continues to be strengthened in national and international academic settings that promote a human, reflective, and transformative education.
