The presentations bearing the Unicaucano seal that were shared at this important congress enabled a valuable exchange of knowledge and experiences, while also encouraging the continued development of research on mobility and road safety, an essential area for addressing the challenges faced by both large and small cities.
“We realized that the research outputs on mobility and road safety generated in our faculty are at the national forefront, and that is very important for the University. Moreover, together with universities across the country, we are teaching under the same standards in order to drive meaningful change in society. We also emphasized the importance of modernizing the collective bus fleet, both the buses themselves and the infrastructure, based on clean energy,” stated Professor Carlos Oñate from the Department of Roads and Transportation.
Thus, the University of Cauca’s commitment to research and the development of innovative solutions was evident in each of the presentations delivered. This even earned Unicauca special recognition from the congress organizers, who highlighted that these research projects originated in the student research groups, instilling a passion for inquiry in our young people.
“For the students, this was an enriching experience because it motivated them to continue researching, to work as a team, and they also realized how important it is to share their work and uphold the name of the institution,” said Professor Alexandra Rosas from the Department of Roads and Transportation.
It is important to mention that the Colombian Congress of Transportation and Transit, previously known as the Colombian Symposium on Traffic and Transportation Engineering, has its roots in our Alma Mater. In the 1980s, it emerged within the graduate program in Roads and Transportation, and for more than 30 years it has served as a meeting space for academics, students, consultants, entrepreneurs, and national and international authorities who gather to discuss recent advances in research and applications in traffic engineering, transportation, and logistics. For this reason, during the event, it was announced that the XVI edition of the Colombian Congress of Transportation and Transit will be held at the University of Cauca in 2027, coinciding with the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of our beloved institution. This great news represents a unique opportunity to highlight the University of Cauca’s academic leadership and commitment to the country’s development in the field of transportation and mobility.
On this occasion, the professors from the Department of Roads and Transportation, Mg. José Aldemar González, Mg. Alexandra Rosas, Mg. Nancy Paola González, Mg. Cristian Rosas, Mg. Víctor Renán Castillo, Mg. Diego Felipe Acevedo, and Mg. Carlos Eduardo Oñate, together with Civil Engineering students from the Popayán and Santander de Quilichao campuses, were responsible for proudly carrying the Unicaucano blue and red to this prominent event. Likewise, among the student presenters were Andrés Felipe Gómez, David González, Vanessa Alpala, Andrea Burgos, Giselle Guevara Tascón, Harleson Artunduaga, Karla Fernanda Mora, Laura Camila Meneses, Mariana Ulchur Ruiz, Sharon Jordán Vidal, Ángela María Muñoz, Carlos Felipe Manchola, Jesús David Romero, and Wilson Rodríguez, all active members of the Transportation Research Group (SIT) and the Roads and Transit Research Group (SIVYTS).
Congratulations to everyone who represented our University!
