The XXII Latin American Congress of Regional Anesthesia and Pain 2025, organized by the Latin American Society of Regional Anesthesia (LASRA), was consolidated this year as one of the most relevant scientific spaces for the region, with regard to the updating of techniques in regional anesthesia, perioperative medicine, and comprehensive pain management. Over the course of three days, Bogotá became the epicenter and premier meeting point for specialists, researchers, and instructors from more than 15 countries, who shared advances, quality standards, and best practices aimed at optimizing patient safety and well-being.
At the meeting, Dr. Paola Hernández, professor of the Department of Anesthesiology and LASRA delegate for Colombia, was part of the organizing committee and served as an instructor in various high-complexity procedures in regional anesthesia, contributing her experience and leadership in this field. In addition, Dr. Roberth Alexander Ordoñez Ortega served as session chair on topics of particular academic relevance, such as opioid rotation, and participated as an instructor in ultrasound-guided interventional analgesic procedures, aimed at strengthening strategies to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic pain.
For their part, Dr. Diana Karolina Rodríguez and Dr. Juan David Bermeo stood out for their participation as junior instructors and speakers, thereby contributing to the successful development of the congress’s training activities and demonstrating the quality of the educational process fostered at University of Cauca in the field of anesthesiology. For Dr. Rodríguez, “Participating in the Regional Anesthesia Congress – LASRA represented a highly enriching experience both academically and professionally. Being able to attend as a speaker and, at the same time, take part in different sessions made it possible to update knowledge in regional anesthesia techniques, review recent evidence, and contrast clinical practice with international experts in the field. It was also a valuable opportunity to strengthen teaching skills, share experiences with colleagues from different countries, and contribute to the dissemination of advanced concepts in regional anesthesia, which directly impacts the quality and safety of perioperative care.”
Without a doubt, the active participation of faculty members and residents in this congress underscores the commitment of the caucana Alma Mater to continue consolidating itself as an academic benchmark in the field of health. This type of events of international scope not only highlights the excellence of its educational processes, but also creates opportunities for cooperation, updating, and professional growth for new generations of specialists in anesthesiology. In this way, the University reaffirms its purpose of training human talent capable of offering innovative and ethical solutions to the challenges of the health system, benefiting both the region and the country.
