Get ready for a scientific adventure that will ignite the imagination! From September 24 to 26, 2025, The Alma Mater of Cauca, together with the other Higher Education Institutions present in the region, will open the doors of science to the entire community. Let’s explore together the fascinating world of Research, Development, and Innovation (R+D+I)!

“Science in the Park 2025: Territories Connected by Knowledge and Wisdom” is much more than an event; it is an invitation for our children and young people of Cauca, and for all those passionate about learning, to fall in love with science. We want to create a magical space for exchange where science is told in a fun, accessible, and above all, inspiring way. Here, universities, technological centers, and everyone who dreams of a region that positively impacts the world come together, through science!

This gathering, carefully organized by the Research Committee of the Cauca Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Ecosystem, will transform Francisco José de Caldas Park into a gigantic open-air laboratory; a place where curiosity will take center stage, where knowledge will flow freely, and where every corner invites discovery and dreaming big.

This scientific celebration will be experienced intensely from September 24 to 26 in Popayán and Santander de Quilichao. The result of an alliance among the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia (Cooperative University of Colombia), UNIMAYOR (University Institution Colegio Mayor del Cauca), Universidad del Cauca (University of Cauca), Fundación Universitaria de Popayán (University Foundation of Popayán), Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia – UNAD (National Open and Distance University – UNAD), Fundación Universitaria María Cano (María Cano University Foundation), Uniautónoma del Cauca (Autonomous University Corporation of Cauca), SENA Cauca (National Learning Service – Cauca), Universidad Antonio Nariño (Antonio Nariño University), Corporación Universitaria Comfacauca (Comfacauca University Corporation), and Universidad Autónoma Indígena Intercultural – UAIIN-CRIC (Autonomous Indigenous Intercultural University – UAIIN-CRIC), this thoughtfully designed space will ensure that knowledge reaches everyone, connecting academia, the productive sector, and our people. United, with the support of the Gobernación del Cauca (Government of Cauca) and the Alcaldía de Popayán (Mayor’s Office of Popayán), we are making the 5th Meeting on Innovation and Competitiveness Management (GIC-2025) a reality!

“This event seeks to foster scientific vocations in students from an early age, both in elementary and high school, through spaces where they can engage with science in a more experiential way. The Research Committee of Cauca has made a great effort to bring science to the city, with the intention that schools across the department take part and thus sow vocations that, in the future, will motivate more young people to pursue careers in Basic Sciences, Engineering, and related fields,” stated Dr. Francisco Pino, Vice President for Research at the Universidad del Cauca (University of Cauca). “We want children and young people, from elementary through high school, to experience science in an exciting and close way. We are planting the seeds of scientific vocation in the heart of Cauca.”

Thus, this type of large-scale gathering allows us to highlight how Research, Technological Development, and Innovation (R+D+I) processes are essential for the progress and evolution of society. The reason? They generate discoveries and advances that improve quality of life, drive economic growth, and strengthen competitiveness. However, these processes would not be complete without the social appropriation of knowledge, that is, without ensuring that results reach and are understood by the community. For this reason, institutions are committed to promoting this appropriation in a relevant manner, responding to the needs and realities of the context: our commitment is to make science belong to everyone, connected to our realities and needs.

Thus, at this great gathering, the young talents from the research seedbeds of our universities will share their projects, and our researchers will serve as guides, evaluating and exchanging experiences. It will be a day to empower creative minds, showcase the brightest ideas, and weave networks of collaboration throughout Cauca. Oh! And best of all: admission is free and certified! In addition, we will reward creativity with recognitions for the best presentations and posters, and we will publish the most outstanding works so they may continue inspiring others.

In this way, the Universidad del Cauca (University of Cauca) reaffirms its commitment to transforming lives through science, research, and interinstitutional partnerships, thus bringing knowledge closer to the community and opening pathways to the future for new generations. Our goal is clear, and we reiterate it: we dream that many more young people will choose careers in Basic Sciences, Engineering, and related fields, because the future is in their hands and in their curiosity!

If you would like to participate, check the agenda HERE. We look forward to seeing you! Starting now, let it be part of your plans.
