The Anesthesiology and Revival Association from Cauca (ACAR) and the Department of Anesthesiology of the University of Cauca participated as organizers and speakers at the 36th Colombian Congress of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation (ColAnest 2025) and the 2nd World Congress of Obstetric Anesthesia (WCOA 2025), held from August 28 to 30 in Medellín.
In this way, anesthesiologists from ACAR, faculty members, and postgraduate students from the Specialization Program in Anesthesiology at the University of Cauca attended the event, contributing to the discussions and expanding the department’s reach at both the national and international levels.
The participation of the following students is especially noteworthy:
For their part, faculty members from the Department of Anesthesiology also participated actively as keynote speakers and workshop organizers at the event: Juan Pablo Caicedo, Roberth Alexander Ordoñez, Paola Hernández, and José Andrés Calvache. Likewise, the participation of Felipe Muñoz, an anesthesiologist and graduate of the program, is also noteworthy.
This event, described as historic, brought together more than 2,500 in-person attendees and 960 virtual participants from 23 countries. Within the congress’s academic program, 70 lectures were delivered across 26 thematic blocks, featuring 187 speakers. The delegation from Cauca strengthened this scientific environment through active participation in presentations, workshops, and networking spaces.
Additionally, WCOA 2025 gathered renowned international experts who shared advances in obstetric anesthesia.
The Anesthesiology and Revival Association from Cauca is led by Dr. Diego Rojas, professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, who stood out at the event for achieving the highest number of nationally recertified anesthesiologists during the most recent period. It is also important to highlight the leadership and organization of the current president of the Colombian Society of Anesthesiology and Revival (SCARE), Dr. Olga Lucía Herrera, an anesthesiologist and graduate of the Anesthesiology Program at the University of Cauca.
The participation of ACAR and the University of Cauca in ColAnest 2025 and WCOA 2025 reaffirms the department’s academic, scientific, and social commitment. Being part of this historic event demonstrates Cauca’s capacity to integrate and contribute to the development of anesthesiology at both the national and international levels.
