Professor Dr. José Rafael Rosero Morales, head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Cauca, participated in the XIII Conference on the Thought of Rodolfo Kusch, held in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil, an international academic setting that highlighted the presence and contribution of the University of Cauca in spaces for reflection and academic dialogue within the Latin American sphere.

This academic event was organized by the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and brought together social leaders, representatives of Indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples, as well as professors, researchers, and students from different regions of Brazil and South America. The main objective of the Conference was to foster a space for dialogue and reflection on the intellectual legacy of Rodolfo Kusch and Lélia González, as well as on the proposal of a “deep, feminine, and popular Amefrica” as a framework for thinking about the contemporary challenges of the region.

Based on Kusch’s thought, the meeting promoted a reflection on America from the communal and the profound, while the contributions of Lélia González introduced the notion of Amefricanity and an Afro-Latin American perspective that emphasizes the intersection between gender, race, class, and coloniality. In this sense, the Conference addressed topics related to the body, Black feminisms, the communal, memories, and popular knowledge, projecting a future horizon built from diversity and affect.

The academic program included a broad agenda of activities such as keynote lectures, thematic panels, discussion forums, book presentations, and cultural expressions. In this context, Professor Rosero Morales participated as a speaker in the panel “Interculturalidade, Bem Viver e as Experiências Filosóficas,” with the presentation entitled Toward an alterized curriculum for the teaching of philosophy: a contribution from intercultural philosophy. Likewise, he presented the book Filosofía Intercultural y Territorio, a recent publication co-authored with Josef Estermann (Switzerland) and Magali Mendes de Menezes (Brazil).

It is worth noting that both works derive from research project ID 6283 (VRI). Participation in this international academic space represented a valuable opportunity to share research results in high-level academic settings, thanks to the mobility support granted by the Office of the Vice-Rectory for Research of the University of Cauca.

According to Dr. Rosero Morales —member of the International School of Intercultural Philosophy (EIFI) and director of the Philosophy and Philosophy Teaching Research Group—, this participation is part of one of the disciplinary development axes promoted by the Department of Philosophy, whose positioning has been increasingly consolidated in recent years, especially through the lines of Intercultural Philosophy and Philosophy and Philosophy Teaching.

The participation of the University of Cauca in the 13th Conference on the Thought of Rodolfo Kusch reaffirms its commitment to international outreach, intercultural dialogue, and academic production rooted in Latin American contexts. These spaces strengthen regional academic ties, highlight the institution’s research contributions, and consolidate the role of philosophy as a fundamental field for critical reflection, the diversity of knowledge, and the construction of thought from and for the territories.
