The University of Cauca highlights the participation of Professor William Mina Aragón and student Eduard Nixon Pérez Pino, affiliated with the Faculty of Law, Political and Social Sciences, in two of the most relevant academic events worldwide on Afrodiasporic studies, recently held in Spain. These activities strengthen the international visibility of the Political Science Program and the GIAPRIP Research Group, and reaffirm the institutional commitment to knowledge production with a territorial and ethnically differentiated approach.

Professor William Mina Aragón and student Eduard Nixon Pérez Pino, affiliated with the Political Science Program of the Faculty of Law, Political and Social Sciences, participated in the III International Congress of Afro-descendant Literary and Cultural Studies “Africas and Afro-descendancies: literary imaginaries and cultural dialogues,” held in the city of Alcalá de Henares (Spain).

During the academic event, both took part in the panel “Pan-Africanism and Afrodiasporic literature,” a space that fostered critical dialogue around the literary and cultural production of Afrodiasporic communities. Additionally, Professor Mina presented the paper “Afrodiasporicity and Afro-centered narratives,” in which he shared reflections resulting from his recent research.

Likewise, the professor participated in the II World Conference Afromadrid, considered one of the most relevant gatherings at a global level for Afro-descendant academics, researchers, and intellectuals. In this setting, held at the Museo Reina Sofía Venue, he delivered the keynote lecture entitled “Pan-African intellectual manifesto,” where he shared the main results of his studies within the Afro-Colombian line of the GIAPRIP Research Group.

These studies gave rise to the book Afrodiasporidad. Reflexiones sobre afromarxismo, intelectuales y política (2025), a work presented before a specialized international audience, generating broad interest for its analytical contribution and critical perspective.

Regarding his participation, the professor highlighted that: “These activities contribute significantly to the positioning of the Political Science Program, the GIAPRIP Research Group, and our Alma Mater in the most important international settings for Afro-diaspora studies, as they make visible the efforts we undertake to generate knowledge with a territorial and ethnically differentiated approach, aimed at producing a real social impact.”

The presence of the University of Cauca in these spaces strengthens its international projection and reaffirms the commitment of the University of Cauca community to research on Afro-descendant identities, Pan-African thought, and the cultural constructions of the diaspora. These achievements demonstrate the institutional efforts to promote knowledge production with a territorial and critical approach.
