In a showcase of talent, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship, more than 1,800 athletes from universities across the country gathered in the capital of Boyacá to compete in 14 sporting disciplines. Join us as we look back at the participation of Unicaucano athletes, who truly upheld the name of our institution by returning home with a total of 13 medals.
In the sporting event held from Wednesday, August 14 to Monday, August 19, the University of Cauca achieved outstanding results in several disciplines, including athletics. Staff members Cristhian Nicolás Figueroa Martínez and Eduardo Andrés Cañola Sotelo were undeniable standouts in the 5K and 10K events, earning gold and silver medals in the master’s category. Meanwhile, Lina Marcela Jaller Díaz excelled in the open category with a silver medal in the 5K, bringing the athletics team’s total to 2 gold medals and 3 silver medals.
And in the men’s doubles category of Tennis, Hugo Yair Orozco Dueñas and Karin Correa Arana secured a bronze medal, a true testament to teamwork, which was clearly reflected in their performance on the court.
In the Table Tennis discipline, Daniel Alberto Jaramillo Morillo earned a gold medal in the men’s doubles and team events, in addition to a bronze medal in the individual event. Luis Ildemar Bolaños Andrade also stood out in the team event, contributing to a total of 2 gold medals and 1 bronze for the table tennis team.
Their success reflects the value of joint training and a strong dedication to both individual and collective excellence.
In Mini Tejo, a traditional Colombian game, Carmen Rosalba Beltrán Baquero won the gold medal in the individual event, while the doubles team, formed by Alice Marina Díaz Betancourt, Viviana Marcela Celis Quinayas, and Francy Stella Martínez Velasco, took home a bronze medal.
Finally, the men’s soccer team reaffirmed their status as champions in the master’s category, as they claimed the gold medal for the second consecutive year, and secured the bronze medal in the open category.
This outstanding performance highlights the importance of teamwork and the cohesion that defines the athletic spirit of the Alma Mater of Cauca.
It is important to mention that this outstanding overall performance was also made possible thanks to the support of a delegation made up of 5 coaches and 6 physical therapists, Unicaucano professionals who were indispensable throughout the competitions, providing unwavering support to the 63 athletes representing our University.
In conclusion, from this house of knowledge and thought, we would like to extend our sincerest congratulations to each of the athletes, as you embody the commitment, passion, and unity that characterize our university community.
