Two new portraits of former rectors in the Fundadores Hall of the University of Cauca

The Fundadores Hall was the place where the University began its activities on November 11, 1827, and today its walls display a gallery of 154 portraits of the people who have led the Alma Mater of the Cauca region to date.

In a solemn ceremony held in the Fundadores Hall of the Faculty of Law, Political and Social Sciences, at the Santo Domingo Cloister, two new portraits of former rectors were unveiled. The two new oil-on-canvas works correspond to Harold Alberto Muñoz and Danilo Reinaldo Vivas Ramos; portraits created by Master of Fine Arts Fabián Esteban Guzmán Ramírez, who, following the traditional parameters of the space, captures the changing times in painting, especially in terms of lighting.

“He loved this Alma Mater so much that he stayed here, not only in this painting, but also because his soul lives peacefully in this place,” stated Magistrate Ana María Muñoz, daughter of former rector Harold Muñoz, who led the reconstruction of the University of Cauca after the 1983 earthquake.

In his words, former rector Danilo Reinaldo Vivas Ramos highlighted the work of maestro Fabián Guzmán, author of four of the portraits found in the premises of the Fundadores Hall. He also praised the level of realism achieved in the installed oil paintings.

The Fundadores Hall, a hall that also bears the name of the distinguished rector Benjamín Irragori Diez, was the place where the University began its work on November 11, 1827, and today its walls display a gallery of 154 portraits of the individuals who, to this day, have led the Alma Mater of the people of Cauca.
