On a day that will remain in the institution’s memory, the University of Cauca officially welcomed these 24 new faculty members, who were sworn in on February 24, 2026, at the emblematic Paraninfo Francisco José de Caldas. Accompanied by their families, colleagues, and students, this moment symbolizes not only an individual achievement, but also the consolidation of a team that, from public education, transforms lives and makes dreams come true. This significant number of graduates returning as faculty underscores the virtuous cycle of education and the strong sense of belonging that characterizes this institution, which is #HeritageOfAll.
This event is part of the implementation of the Call Plan defined by the University’s Superior Council through Agreement 085 of 2021, aimed at filling full-time faculty positions through public merit-based competitions in accordance with academic needs. As part of this plan, between 2023 and 2025 the University has made steady progress in strengthening its faculty body: in 2023, 4 positions were opened and all were filled; subsequently, 27 additional positions were offered, of which 15 were filled. In 2024, 45 more positions were announced, including previously vacant posts, resulting in 27 being filled and ultimately 24 professors being appointed. These results demonstrate the continuous progress of the process and the commitment of the current administration to strengthening teaching, research, and social outreach through the incorporation of highly qualified human talent, always prioritizing merit as a guiding principle of institutional action.
For the Academic Vice-Rector, Dr. Aída Patricia Gonzales Nieva, this moment represents the realization of a project built with rigor and sensitivity: “Today we see the faces and the stories behind each process, life projects that come to fruition after years of effort and dedication.” She also emphasized that many of the new professors had already been contributing to the institution as adjunct and temporary faculty, demonstrating a commitment to recognizing professional trajectories and strengthening job stability.
For his part, the Rector of the caucana Alma Mater, Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, stated: “We are happy because we are making progress in terms of the formalization of professors, but also in providing them with better conditions of job stability and salary guarantees that allow them to continue performing their work with excellence and contributing to the construction of this important institutional project as we approach the bicentennial.”
Among the new members of the faculty, emotions reflect years of dedicated work and a strong vocation for service, as expressed by Magda Beatriz Erazo Bonilla from the Department of Private Law, for whom this achievement holds deep meaning: “On a personal level, it is a great joy, an immense satisfaction, because this is the culmination of 19 years of work linked to the Law Program as both adjunct and temporary faculty. That is what I feel, and on a professional level, it is a reaffirmation of my commitment, to the University, to the institution, to the duty of educating excellent lawyers from the University of Cauca, excellent human beings who contribute to society,” she shared with great emotion.
This sense of pride, multiplied by belonging to an institution nearing its bicentennial, was also evident in the Department of Chemistry, with Rodrigo Andrés Sarria Villa, who highlighted both the emotion and the responsibility involved in completing a demanding process after nearly a decade as a temporary professor. He emphasized his commitment to contributing to the development of Cauca through the education of new professionals: “This moment brings immense joy, along with a strong sense of responsibility toward the institution, the students, the community, and the department of Cauca in its goal of educating future professionals.”
With this new incorporation of faculty, the University of Cauca continues to move forward steadily in fulfilling its Institutional Development Plan For a University of Excellence and Solidarity, particularly its first strategic axis, which recognizes “Our people as the most valuable asset.” Each appointment not only strengthens academic quality but also positively impacts family realities, inspires new generations, and reaffirms the role of public education as a driver of equity and hope. When a professor achieves stability that allows them to promote long-term knowledge-generation projects, society as a whole benefits, opportunities expand, and it is confirmed that at the University of Cauca, lives are transformed and dreams come true!
