Graduate Specialization in Internal Medicine

The Internal Medicine is the specialization that deals with the health and nonsurgical diseases of the adult. Our society considers that the diseases of the teens, adults and elderly people constitute health problems that require actions of the Specialist in Internal Medicine.

In this demographic group there is a great prevalence of morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular, metabolic, renal, mental and degenerative with infectious complications.  All these kind of diseases affecting the population economically active can have a big impact on the city, the department or the country.

The Internists (Internal Medicine Specialists), various international committees of specialization in Internal Medicine and The Colombian Association of Internal Medicine (ACMI), agree that the level of training should be three years.  In some cases it should be a four-year training like in the case of general internists with a special interest in academics and teaching.
