Specialization in pavement

The pavement specialization program seeks to answer obvious needs for training and development in a field of engineering that, like the other, has undergone major advances in recent years.

Scientific and technological developments have made possible a more thorough and accurate knowledge of the materials used in pavement structures, which should be disclosed and applied in solving problems that must be addressed to better the road network of the country. Likewise, the emergence of new equipment, materials, quality specifications, design methods, construction processes, and the significant increases in traffic loads make it necessary that engineers must prepare to respond effectively and creatively to new challenges they encounter in the course of pavement engineering.

In Colombia and particularly in the region, there have been negative experiences in the behavior of newly paved or rehabilitated roads.  For this reason it is essential to foster a culture of real control and efficient quality, allowing for the major investments in roads to be profitable and for paved roads to provide suitable conditions for the carriage of persons and goods; operate routes with costs and conditions that promote the country’s economy.
