Social Communication Program

The Social communication Program belongs to the Faculty of Law, Political, and Social Sciences of the University of Cauca and was created by the Agreement No 016 of March 1999, issued by the Board of Governors.

This academic program focuses on the training of professionals of integrity who are able to interpret the complexity of communication processes to influence the quality of the data between different social sectors. Overcoming the study of the logic of production, distribution, circulation, and consumption of messages and journalistic genres present in different media, the Social Communication Program seeks to investigate the various mediations that affect the construction of meaning in communication processes to influence the significance and dynamics of cultural dialogue.

Also aims to enable students to think of communication in a strategic manner, focused ways to manage recognition and social representation which foster a more equitable and consistent with the region’s cultural diversity.  In this regard, given its relevance to the University of Cauca and its public nature, assumes a commitment to the resolution of various problems that contribute to the improvement of southwestern Colombia and the rest of the country. In addition, the Social Communication Program aims for the academic formation of a communicator able to design, develop, implement, and evaluate projects and communication products that help explain the various representations of cultural scenarios. In turn, it has to do with the formation of a professional to manage and lead projects and media companies to expand and qualify the supply of communication messages of the region and create new workplaces.

By Resolution 3677 of August 31, 2005, issued by the Ministry of National Education, the registry was granted to this Academic Program at the University of Cauca.

Modality: The classes are held in a classroom setting. 

Duration: Nine (9) semesters.
