The Ministry of Education awarded the High Quality Institutional Accreditation to the University of Cauca for a period of six years by resolution 3218 of 2013.

The directors of the University received with great joy the official communication of the education portfolio on April 10, 2013.

To grant this recognition to Higher Education Institutions, the National Accreditation Council considers the achievement of overall objectives of higher education including comprehensive training, knowledge creation, development and transfer, and the contribution to the Professional training and consolidation of academic communities. All these are features that fully meet the University of Cauca and have earned the recognition mentioned.

"We just received the High Quality Institutional Accreditation for six years, which means that we already are part of the most importan public universities in the country.   Not only from the conceptual point of view and perceptions, but also there is now a Resolution that gives the society the assurance that we have been assessed and recognized, "said the rector of the University of Cauca, Juan Diego Castrillon Orrego.

The High Quality Accreditation recognizes the achievement of the principles, missions and institutional projects and social relevance, cultural and pedagogical of these missions and projects. It also confirms the quality regarding the manner in which the University of Cauca fulfills its basic functions in the fields of action of higher education, institutional climate, resource management and overall performance.

"This is an achievement of all university community, not just of those of us in the direction who during the past eleven months, decided to conclude the previous decision that the university leadership should be evaluated," said the Rector of Unicauca.

Orrego Castrillón added that this recognition means that in the last 40 years, the university administrations have been working on making sure that the university project has the appropriate skill levels and standards at national and international levels. "For that reason, last November we recognized the former rectors of the University that are alive, with the permission of Supreme Council, appreciating their leadership during all past years that made possible that we are now accredited," he said.

The University Management also informed on the implementation of a communications plan to disseminate not only the High Quality Institutional Accreditation, but also of the commitments acquired by Unicauca with this recognition.

"Now we have the challenge to continue working with the same quality which we have worked, and in six years, when they come to evaluate us for re-accreditation, we will obtain accreditation again and thus remain in the world of high quality evaluated universities in the country, in Latin America and globally ",said Orrego Castrillón.

This Accreditation granted by the Ministry of Education also evaluates the link between relevance and quality, academic rigor and quality of the programs, which account for the fulfillment of social role to be met by higher education institutions and has had into account the Universidad del Cauca to run and be evaluated by the National Accreditation Board.
