With our roots from Cauca, we also take the FILBo 2023! (Book Fair)

La Universidad -

With our roots from Cauca, we also take the FILBo 2023!

From April 18 to May 2, the University of Cauca will be in the Colombian capital actively participating in the Bogotá International Book Fair, the most important cultural event in Colombia and whose guest country for this 2023 version is Mexico.

Join us in the development of the 35th version of the FILBo 2023 International Book Fair that will take place from April 18 to May 2 in the Colombian capital: during the 15 days of the fair, from the University of Cauca we will be present with our Editorial Seal, who will be in charge of decorating the second floor of Pavilion 3, stand 122, of the Corferias venue with all our production of knowledge in which, without a doubt, the latest news and launches that will be on display will be highlighted in a special way. reach of all those interested in high-quality publications.

But that's not all, since we also plan institutional participation in a series of activities to which we have been invited or that will be directly promoted by us. Thus, our Unicaucana representation will begin on the right foot on April 19, at 1:00 pm, in the José María Vargas Mila room; space in which the presentation "The pandemic and the transformation of university publishing houses" will take place, in which the General Editor of Publications of the University of Cauca, Juan Carlos Pino Correa, will participate. “There is going to be a reflection on how the pandemic has influenced publishing, what changes have arisen from this new context, which allows for a very interesting dialogue because as a result of the pandemic the processes and the way of publishing have changed. edition of the books and in that sense you have to reflect on that”.

As is tradition, locals and visitors will have at their disposal a wide grill with the most varied activities, so it could be a wonderful plan to think about the possibility of visiting the capital in the coming days. And since on this occasion the FILBo has Mexico as its guest of honor with its motto "Roots and encounters: for a future of peace for our America", the organizers defined a central axis that promises to be present in all the literary, cultural, academic and professional event, and with which it seeks to highlight the three roots of our culture: Indigenous, Spanish and African. In this sense, as Alma Mater from Cauca we join this celebration that alludes to the origins, through our Posteris Lvmen collection, which commemorates the roots of the University of Cauca and seeks to recover the bibliographic memory not only of this nearby institution to celebrate its 200th anniversary, but also of the region and the country, through the publication of 100 titles between the year 2022 and 2027.

Undoubtedly, this is a large-scale and broad-impact initiative that will allow us to celebrate, in style, the bicentennial of our University; a University that, true to its nature as a center of regional thought, gives the possibility for the most varied authors to address an infinite number of topics, diverse expressions, areas and the most representative moments in our history, the department of Cauca and Colombia in general.

Considering that the first ten titles are already available in the main bookstores in the country and given their good reception, from the University there is a clear commitment to continue with the process of promotion and positioning at the national level. Thus, the presentation of these first ten titles of the Posteris Lvmen collection is scheduled for April 26, at 4:00 pm, in the Great Hall Raíces E, highlighting among the literary jewels that the participants will be able to discover the work "The thoughts of the Indian who was educated in the Colombian jungles" by Manuel Quintín Lame, a great leader in the struggles of the original peoples of Cauca, as well as "Recondito Coast" by Sofonías Yacup Caicedo, where the demands are expressed of the Colombian Pacific.

Similarly, on April 28 at 11:00 am, in the Jorge Isaacs Room, there will be a presentation of one of the books with the most copies sold, entitled "School Racism, educational debates and chronicles" written by the professors of the University of Cauca, Elizabeth Castillo Guzmán and José Antonio Caicedo Ortiz. In addition, by the Editorial Program of the Universidad del Valle, the Afro-Colombian Library of Social Sciences Collection will be available to the public, a compilation made by the professor of the Universidad del Cauca, William Mina Aragón.

It should be noted that this version of FILBo will have the presence of top-level writers, lecturers and guests such as Kim Thúy, Cecilia Szperling and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, among other prominent international women. At the national level, Amalia Andrade, Andrea Cote, Carolina Sanín, Andrea Salgado, Piedad Bonnett and Pilar Quintana will be present, among many other participations that reflect teamwork, led by Adriana Ángel, director of the International Book Fair of this year.

From the University of Cauca we are happy to be part of the 35th version of the International Book Fair, with high-quality publications that represent a large part of the knowledge production that is promoted and born from our Alma Mater; Hence, participation in such important cultural spaces allows us to continue growing to continue building a University of Excellence and Solidarity.

Either through our digital channels or by tuning in to the special broadcasts of Unicauca Estéreo, where we will have interviews with Unicauca authors and external authors, we want you to feel as yours the development of this traditional event that is gestated around the love of letters. , books and all the culture that emerges from the enriching literary universe.
