Outstanding Triumphs of University of Cauca Athletes in the Second Semester of 2023

Athletes from the University of Cauca showcased their prowess across various disciplines in different competitions during the second semester of 2023.

In diverse sports events such as the XXX National Games for University Students 2023, held in Bogotá from September 23rd to October 4th; the XXII University Sports Games SINTRAUNICOL, conducted from October 2nd to 8th in the city of Armenia; and the Bruno Mantilla Cup organized by the Autonomous University of Cauca in Popayán throughout October, University of Cauca athletes excelled in various disciplines.

During the XXX National Games for University Students 2023, held in Bogotá from September 23rd to October 4th, our athletes earned a total of 22 gold, 16 silver, and 16 bronze medals, amassing an impressive total of 54 medals.

At the XXII University Sports Games SINTRAUNICOL, held from October 2nd to 8th in Armenia, University of Cauca delegations excelled in disciplines such as futsal, mountain cycling, and billiards, securing a total of 11 medals.

Moreover, in the Bruno Mantilla Cup organized by the Autonomous University of Cauca in Popayán during October, our futsal teams for students (both female and male categories) and the team comprising faculty and staff emerged as champions.

In the initial final held on October 26th at the Coliseum of the University Sports Center in Tulcán, the women's team achieved a resounding 4-0 victory against the team from the Autonomous University of Cauca. Simultaneously, the faculty and staff team triumphed in penalties against their counterparts from Uniautónoma, claiming the title in this category.

Our male futsal team, comprised of students, also shone on the field, securing the championship with a 5-2 victory against the representative team of the Autonomous University of Cauca. These achievements are the result of the hard work and determination of our players, guided by Professor Andrés Felipe Rodríguez.

It's important to note that the women's student team secured a Bronze Medal in the ASCUN-Bogotá National University Games, and the staff team was crowned champions of the XXI SINTRAUNICOL National Games, adding two more championships with the Bruno Mantilla Cup.

Similarly, we highlight the achievement of the male and female volleyball teams in the Bruno Mantilla Cup, both claiming the championship titles, led by Julián Andrés Alzate Valencia, an official from the Division of Recreation and Sports Management.

Additionally, notable participation in table tennis was witnessed, with Luis Miguel Andrade, a graduate from the Physiotherapy program, securing the first place in the Male Category alongside Daniel Espinoza, an official from the Division of Human Talent Management, who secured the second place. In the Female Category, Laura Torres, a student of Physics Engineering, claimed the first place, and Danna Martínez from the Biology program secured the third position.

These achievements in the realm of sports reflect the commitment and passion of students, faculty, and administrative staff who proudly represent the University of Cauca in various sporting competitions, uplifting the legacy of our beloved institution, which is the heritage of all.
