During July 2023, students from the postgraduate program at the University of Cauca had outstanding participation in Cartagena and Brazil. Moreover, one of the research presentations secured second place among 160 related proposals.

Student Julián Camilo Velásquez Paz attended the XXXV Pan-American Congress of Trauma, Critical Care, and Emergency Surgery held in Florianópolis, Brazil, from July 27th to 30th. As a first-year resident, he took part in the research competition with the work titled "Delay in Surgical Intervention and its Outcomes During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Patients with Proximal Femur Fractures," earning the second place among 160 research studies from across the Americas.

This research had scientific guidance and mentoring from faculty members of the Faculty of Health Sciences: Ángela María Merchán Galvis, Juan Pablo Caicedo, José Andrés Calvache, and academic support from the Dean Adriana Mañunga and the Head of the Anesthesiology Department, Nayibe Salamanca.

Additionally, students Camilo Cortés, Danilo Osorio, and Karen Rivera, who are part of the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Research Group (GRIAN), participated in the XXXV National Congress of Anesthesiology of the Colombian Society of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation held from July 13th to 15th in Cartagena. These third-year residents were chosen to participate in the Juan Marín Research Contest for Residents with the works titled "Acetaminophen for Postoperative Pain in Children: Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis" and "Prevalence of Needs Related to Physical Symptoms in Patients Potentially Requiring Palliative Care in the Colombian Clinical Context."

Similarly, David Molina, Santiago Díez, and Julián Velásquez, first-year residents, took part in the educational materials category with the works titled "Tool for Measuring Intracranial Pressure: Diameter in the Optic Nerve Sheath" and "Clavipectoral Block: Description and Clinical Use."

The outstanding participation of the Anesthesiology department's residents in these national and international academic events demonstrates the academic and research quality of our Faculty and the Alma Mater, as well as the teamwork of the leading educators in these educational processes. They will continue to represent our University, contributing to the creation of new knowledge within the territory.
