The Department of Social Communication of the University of Cauca shares the videos of the audiovisual project #Terremoto83, which reflects the collective memory and intergenerational dialogues in a trans-media format about the 1983 earthquake in the city of Popayán.

“#terremoto83 is a research-creation project for the design and implementation of a trans-media strategy / experience that aims to generate a space for meeting, collective memory and intergenerational dialogue between the inhabitants of Popayán on one of the most significant events in the city like the 1983 earthquake ”, he explained.

This project goes beyond the official account of the city, which presents it as the white, colonial, university and cultured city of Colombia, to narrate it from its periphery. Recovers dialogue as a basic form of communication and transmission of knowledge, and through it, the voices, stories and images of the protagonists of the post-earthquake social process to share them using various digital resources and tools. The resulting collective account of the earthquake and the new city expands through multiple media, supports and languages with the active participation of the public through the generation of content and interactions.

"The #terremoto83 experience was designed from a perspective that takes into account elements of communication, contemporary art and de-colonial thought, which led to the project being considered as a relational process, in which the abolition of hierarchies is sought , the search for other ways of doing and counting and the opening towards a multiplicity of voices, perspectives and aesthetics, concepts such as author, work, unity, audience were also revalued and the roles played by the different actors involved in this process ”, adds the teacher.

At the methodological level, the project was proposed to develop three key moments:

1. Design of the narrative and planning of the components that are part of the strategy / experience.

2. Implementation and documentation.

3. Systematization.

In order to establish the intergenerational dialogue, two specific questions were started: How was the experience of the 1983 earthquake in Popayán lived? And what urban, social and cultural transformations took place in the city after the earthquake? This way young people learns about the recent history of the city, from this dialogue with their parents or older people they had to produce different textures and put them into circulation.

“As a result, they have an archive made up of numerous media products (audios, videos, info-graphics, photographs, animations and interactive products) that circulated through different media and are articulated in a documentary and an interactive book to build a more inclusive history of the city. ”, Concluded Nelson Fredy Osorio.
