The time machine of our university library

On International Book Day, authors, publishers and librarians, who motivate to browse stories, provide information access services and encourage reading and research.

The University of Cauca celebrates International Book Day and values the importance of reading. Going through pages with readings aloud of Latin American literature, poetry and everyday stories, in a day that takes place from April 23 to 28 in the El Carmen library, in the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, and soon in other venues of libraries.

Libraries help us travel to unknown worlds, they awaken the mind and enrich our interior, they are a source of knowledge that allows us to understand what surrounds us. We invite you to travel with us through history, through our history! To navigate our memories and processes as books have taught us so many times and helped us to do so. Today we present to you our time machine, in which we begin this journey with our jewel in the crown, the oldest book that we currently have in our library, an Elucidatio, published in 1573 and written in Latin. Next door is our oldest newspaper (Liberación -1922) and our oldest magazine (Revista Popayán -1907), edited by the University.

In addition, we are accompanied by other visual elements such as slides of oceanic and African art and reflections of the works of Pablo Picasso. Come to your library, we are waiting for you, the journey has begun...
