From July 24th to August 4th of the current year, the University of Cauca hosted the CIMPA SCHOOL 2023, an academically high-level event that welcomed various national and international delegations. Over two weeks, participants engaged in discussions revolving around pure and applied mathematics.

The Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA) was founded in 1964 by physicist Abdus Salam with the aim of promoting scientific research and capacity development in developing countries. This was achieved through organizing a variety of workshops, programs, conferences, and summer courses in different areas of physics and applied mathematics. Thus, during this summer, the CIMPA SCHOOL 2023 took place at the University of Cauca, focusing on the theme: "Isogenies of elliptic curves and their applications to cryptography."

"CIMPA represents international research schools, and to host it, we had to apply years in advance. The goal is to promote international cooperation in pure and applied mathematics, as well as fostering the emergence of new mathematicians worldwide," expressed Jhon Jairo Bravo Grijalba, coordinator of the Doctorate in Mathematical Sciences and one of the main hosts of this event.

Andrés Tamayo López, a Mathematics student from the Universidad Distrital de Bogotá, mentioned, "The school has been a very pleasant experience because we have been able to understand how these congresses develop. It's my first time attending, and it has been very interesting because we learn new topics that are beneficial for our career." He emphasized the importance of the relationships forged in these spaces and the opportunity to discover the University of Cauca and the city of Popayán.

As the University of Cauca, we take pride in being the venue for such high-level academic events as the CIMPA SCHOOL 2023. We are aware that these two weeks of learning will be reflected in the significant contributions that all participants will make within their fields. Additionally, we reaffirm our commitment to continue uniting efforts so that important reflection meetings are held from various knowledge areas, contributing to building a better society.
