It's indeed a matter of great pride that the University of Cauca, as a regional center of thought, continues to be listed among the best universities in the country. On this occasion, the university has further enhanced its position in one of the most significant global rankings. In the 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings, the University of Cauca has advanced by five positions compared to the year 2023, securing the seventh position among national public institutions and the second spot in southwestern Colombia. This improvement demonstrates the ongoing commitment to academic excellence, research, and overall development, solidifying the institution's standing among the top educational institutions nationally and regionally.

For the third consecutive time, the University of Cauca has been ranked, securing the No. 18 position in the 2024 window, an improvement of five positions compared to 2023. It stands as the seventh national public institution and the second in southwestern Colombia. But why is this news so important? The QS World University ranking is conducted by the British firm Quacquarelli Symonds, founded in London in 1990, and over time, has become one of the most recognized and respected organizations in the field of university rankings, conducting a comprehensive evaluation of thousands of higher education institutions worldwide each year.

This particular ranking considers evaluation indicators such as academic reputation, employer reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, research citations per faculty, internationalization, and web impact. However, it's worth noting that this year, QS World University has introduced a new methodology incorporating three new metrics: sustainability, employment outcomes, and international research network, representing a significant innovation in its methodological paradigm, which has been operating for over two decades.

Thus, the QS ranking evaluated a total of 2963 global universities, of which only 1500 secured a position in the ranking. The University of Cauca attained the 1401st position globally, 18th nationally (among public and private institutions), the seventh position among public higher education institutions, and the second position among the best public universities in southwestern Colombia. Additionally, it's crucial to mention that the results are based on the analysis of 17.5 million academic articles, referencing databases such as Elsevier's SCOPUS, and the opinions of over 240,000 academic professors and employers.

In this way, the University of Cauca is among the top 25 Colombian universities, 10 public and 15 private, representing 10% of the best higher education institutions in Latin America. Carolina Delgado Hurtado, a teacher and coordinator of the Committee for Support in Scientometric Affairs at the University of Cauca, mentioned, "Thanks to the hard work in the normalization and disambiguation of the institutional signature and the authors, we managed to elevate the positioning of our Alma Mater in this prestigious ranking."

Therefore, through the production of high-level academic knowledge, combined with our commitment to excellence, we managed to enhance our university's position in the prestigious QS ranking, continuing to strengthen this house of thought, excellence, and solidarity, nearing its bicentennial, acknowledging research as one of the fundamental tools for transformation and impact in our environment. Undoubtedly, such recognitions become a source of immense pride for the University of Cauca.
