The University of Cauca receives special recognition from the International Classical Music Festival

For more than 33 years, the Alma Mater from Cauca has promoted the development of the International Classical Music Festival and its cultural manager Emith Montilla, promoter of this traditional event, recognized the institutional work by delivering to the University of Cauca, headed by the rector, doctor Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, a plaque as a symbol of gratitude for the invaluable support.

On Holy Thursday, as part of the development of one of the most important weeks for the city of Popayán and within the framework of the piano recital of the girl Manuelita Ríos Tombé and the young composer José Antonio Campo Damian, Mrs. Emith Montilla presented the a plaque of recognition to the University of Cauca for its unavoidable work of supporting, for so long, the International Classical Music Festival. This tribute that took place in the Paraninfo Francisco José de Caldas, was received by the rector of our Alma Mater who stated that "This festival is one more stage in which our artists are trained, in which our artists are integrated and of course support in itself our educational task and our commitment to transform the social reality that is a commitment to culture”.

In this sense, the support provided from the Alma Mater of Cauca to the International Classical Music Festival, is part of the duty of our university to promote scenarios for students to transform their lives and those of their families, at the same time that they influence the social reality of the department, through one of the most powerful tools of art: music. Thus, during the piano recital, all attendees had the opportunity to enjoy the talent of the girl Manuelita Rios Tombé, who belongs to the Misak community and who on August 7, 2022, left the name of our department when performing his piano recital during the inauguration of President Gustavo Petro, in the Plaza de Bolívar in the Colombian capital. In the same way, the young composer José Antonio Campo Damian, delighted the entire audience with his incredible melodies that made reference to the way in which one can respond, through art, to those realities that our department suffers due to the armed conflict. .

Among those attending this recital were several boys and girls who, together with their parents, enjoyed the talent of the young artists, which becomes a great hope that the University of Cauca, in addition to being a regional think tank for Excellence and Solidarity, be that place where the necessary spaces are instilled and promoted so that from an early age the children are the ones who bet on the transformation of reality and the construction of the social fabric through art.

As Universidad del Cauca we feel very proud and grateful for this recognition by the Kiwanis Club, headed by the cultural manager Emith Montilla and in this way, we ratify our commitment to continue supporting the International Classical Music Festival, because as we have already mentioned previously, art is one of the most powerful tools to transform lives and it is what we need to promote in the department of Cauca, especially in the municipalities that have been most affected by violence, hence we also exalt the efforts made by of the Kiwanis Club to carry out this XXXIII version of the festival called "Music for Peace and Reconciliation", which during these days has given the inhabitants of different municipalities an impressive cultural agenda that bets on the construction of peace and which has undoubtedly become a benchmark for cultural management in the region.
