Honoring a collective commitment, Unicauca advances in labor dignification with the establishment of a technical committee!

La Universidad -

With the aim of jointly developing a Labor Dignification Plan for professors and administrative staff, Universidad del Cauca established a technical working committee on Monday, August 11. This initiative involves the participation of University Administration, the Union of University Workers and Employees of Colombia (SINTRAUNICOL), and the Union Association of University Professors (ASPU).

Since the beginning of the current administration, and in line with the first strategic axis of the Institutional Development Plan, “For a University of Excellence and Solidarity,” Alma Mater caucana has recognized that its people are its most valuable asset. In this regard, concrete actions have been implemented to ensure fairer labor conditions, reaffirming the institution’s role as a space for transforming lives and realizing dreams, under the motto #HeritageForAll. The creation of this technical committee, directly linked to Decree 0391, is not an isolated event but the consolidation of a continuous effort and prior interest.

It represents a decisive step toward labor dignification, uniting efforts to define priorities and present a solid proposal to the National Government that promotes progress, while keeping in mind that such actions inevitably require an action plan aligned with the budget realities of our institutions: responsibility is essential!

Regarding the teaching staff, Universidad del Cauca has maintained compliance with the Call Plan, framed under Agreement 085 of 2021 from the University Council, which promotes public merit-based competitions to fill faculty positions according to academic needs.

Between 2023 and 2025, three processes of this nature have been carried out: in 2023, Rectoral Resolution 0378 enabled 4 positions, all successfully filled, and Rectoral Resolution 0836 offered 27 positions, of which 15 were filled and 12 remained vacant. For 2024, Rectoral Resolution 1313 (Call 2024-1) launched 45 positions, including the 12 vacancies from 2023. Currently, the process is in the interview and final evaluation phase, with appointments scheduled for the first academic period of 2026. In this regard, Academic Vice-Rector Dr. Aída Patricia González Nieva highlighted: “Developing this formalization plan will allow us to present to the National Government our budgetary needs to effectively count on career professors and administrative staff, and define the institutional cost to maintain this workforce.”

Regarding administrative staff, since the beginning of the current rectoral management, an exhaustive assessment of the workforce has been conducted to identify vacancies and areas for strengthening. For this purpose, a Technical Support Committee was established to study the needs of administrative positions, in compliance with Rectoral Resolution 0886 of September 1, 2023. This work will serve as a basis for dialogue with the unions and for formulating strategies to strengthen job stability. “As an administration, we are committed to improving the conditions of our administrative staff. With this technical committee and the efforts starting to take shape from the technical area, the necessary guidelines will be defined so that, once resources are available, we can advance in this mission,” stated Magister Jorge Adrián Muñoz Velasco, Administrative Vice-Rector.

From this nearly bicentennial institution, it is emphasized that labor formalization goes beyond a mere response to Decree 0391, constituting an institutional vision that recognizes the interdependence between academic development, quality and excellence, and the stability, dignity, and respect for every member of its community.

Therefore, with the commitment of all involved stakeholders, this technical committee stands as an opportunity to continue building a University that honors its people, consolidates a management model based on excellence, transparency, and solidarity, and reaffirms its role as a cradle of dreams and a creator of an institution that is, and will continue to be, #HeritageForAll.
