In Santander de Quilichao, we experienced the great celebration of University Week and also said “Happy Birthday, Unicauca”!

As we approach the close of 2025, we want to remember one of the most exciting and memorable weeks at our Unicaucana Campus in Santander de Quilichao. From November 25 to 28, in a coordinated effort between the Center for Regionalization, the Vice-Rector’s Office for culture and Wellness (through its Permaneser program), and with the support of the academic programs present there, University Week was held. This festive event also made it possible to commemorate the 198th anniversary of the founding of our institution and brought together students, professors, alumni, and administrators around academic, cultural, sports, and integration activities.

The program began on Tuesday, November 25, with a series of playful and interactive workshops aimed at the entire university community, focused on strengthening competencies in mathematics, physics, reading, and writing. For its part, the Division of Sports and Recreation organized chess, volleyball, futsal tournaments, and sports dance performances. Likewise, academic talks led by the programs of Agroindustrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Modern Languages were held, thus offering highly enriching spaces for updating knowledge and formative dialogue.

Afterward, on Wednesday, December 26, the central event of the week took place, a space dedicated to celebrating the 198 years of this Alma Mater which, on the path to its bicentennial, continues to consolidate itself as #HeritageOfAll. The event, which was attended by Magíster Jorge Adrián Muñoz Velasco, Administrative Vice-Rector; Doctor Álvaro René Restrepo Garcés, director of the Center for Regionalization, representing the university leadership, and many members of the University of Cauca community (faculty, students, administrative staff), will remain as a lasting opportunity to come together around the pride of carrying blue and red in the heart. In this regard, Doctor Álvaro René Restrepo stated, “As in the life of every human being, in an institution such as the University of Cauca, the completion of another year is a reason for joy and celebration, as it symbolizes the continuity of processes with great social impact. The commemoration of the 198th anniversary of our University takes on even greater significance as it is celebrated at the North Campus, in the municipality of Santander de Quilichao, since it represents the capacity of the University of Cauca to fulfill its institutional mission and its commitment to regional development.”

In this way, students and faculty members accompanied this celebration, which included the screening of the new video of the University’s Anthem, received with special enthusiasm by the attending audience. The celebration was enlivened by the infectious rhythms masterfully performed by the Chirimía of Sintraunicol, and concluded with the presentation of a theatrical play by a company from Bogotá.

Then, on Thursday, November 27, the university community participated in the exhibition of entrepreneurial initiatives developed by different academic programs of the campus, along with the interactive stands of the Permaneser program. In addition, the Division of Culture Management held a special Cineclub session, while a pedagogical meeting on Gender-Based Violence was carried out, aimed at awareness-raising and education. The day also included an alumni gathering, strengthening the bonds between graduates and the Institution. “These spaces made it possible to showcase the capacities, talents, and skills of the students, while also fostering a valuable meeting with alumni, who had the opportunity to reconnect with their Alma Mater and witness the growth and progress that the Campus has achieved over the years,” stated the director of the Center for Regionalization.

The closing of the University Week was marked by a race along the ecological trail of the University of Cauca campus in this area of the department; a race organized by the Formative Physical Education program and the Division of Sports, which included both a competitive category and one for amateurs. In the end, the agenda concluded with the Colloquium on Agroecology and Agroindustry, an academic space aimed at discussion and the exchange of knowledge among faculty members, students, and guests.

With these activities, the Santander de Quilichao Campus reaffirmed its community spirit and its commitment to comprehensive education, offering students, faculty members, administrative staff, and visitors a University Week that brought together celebration, reflection, and active participation; weaving spaces of culture and learning, strengthening its presence in the region, and honoring with deep pride 198 years of history, service, and collective construction as a space in which we transform lives and make dreams come true.
