More than one hundred students from Unicauca will provide their services at the Legal Clinics in Popayán and Santander de Quilichao

Final-year Law students took their oath at the Francisco José de Caldas Paraninfo to provide communities with free, high-quality legal advice.

And yes, at this event, which proved to be extremely special and widely significant for our future lawyers, a total of 114 students from the Law program of the Alma Mater of Cauca took their oath, more than prepared to serve communities through the legal clinics located in Popayán and Santander de Quilichao.

In this regard, student Karen Valentina Bolaños Muñoz stated that “Law relies heavily on its social function, and it is precisely this oath that allows us to understand that we will work by and for society. An attorney who is not committed to improving society would be of no use; that is why it is important for us to be well-rounded professionals and to understand that the career, rather than simply pursuing personal interests, is about being attentive to serving the people who turn to us. Therefore, discipline and effort, but above all, values and ethics, must always be present in our actions. Working to offer the very best and striving to ensure that our actions have a positive impact.”

During his remarks at the ceremony, the director of the Legal Clinic in Santander de Quilichao, Gustavo Adolfo Molano Sánchez, highlighted “the moral and ethical commitment these young people assume by putting into practice the values their parents instilled in them. This will make it possible for future generations to be healthier, farther removed from corruption, and supported by professionals who contribute more socially to the community. Beyond knowledge itself, it is the commitment and the desire to resolve each of the issues that arise.”

Meanwhile, Magda Beatriz Erazo Bonilla, director of the Legal Clinic in Popayán, noted that “this oath-taking rite seeks to ensure that Law students understand the importance of beginning to practice the profession through real cases, representing individuals who, for the most part, lack the financial resources to pay a trusted attorney or who are subjects of special constitutional protection. This aims to imbue this new stage that Unicaucano students are beginning with full solemnity and significance.”

With emotion, Karen Valentina added: “these have been eight semesters during which we have prepared ourselves, always striving to do our very best, not merely for a grade or to fulfill a requirement, but because we have the best teachers and a great university that has instilled in us that the Legal Clinic is truly about putting ourselves to the test, answering the questions: What are we made of? and Why have we chosen this career? This is our opportunity to serve the people and to show them that the legal clinics of the University of Cauca offer great quality, with excellent professionals as faculty members and committed students willing to do their very best for the community, which, after all, has also given us the opportunity to pursue this degree.”

Thus, with full confidence in the education provided by this institution, where we transform lives and make dreams come true, we extend an invitation to receive free legal assistance delivered under the highest quality standards offered by the Unicaucano-branded legal clinics. How can you access these services? It is very simple: just visit us! You can find us in Popayán, in the San Camilo neighborhood (Carrera 9 No. 8-51), and in Santander de Quilichao, in the large house adjacent to Santander Park.
