The SUCCESS project aims to establish a sustainable capacity for co-production and collaboration in education and research between higher education institutions in Latin America and the Information Technology (IT) sector. The University of Cauca plays a strategic role in the project, contributing to professional training, applied research projects, organization of academic events, and strengthening cooperation between academia and industry. Additionally, the university is expected to participate actively in quality assurance, dissemination of results, and consolidation of the project’s long-term impact, integrating it into its curricula.
As part of the project’s launch, from April 7 to 10, 2025, a series of activities took place, including the official kickoff ceremony at the University of Antioquia. These meetings and activities were essential for the initial planning and coordination with partner institutions. During this workweek, guidelines and collaboration agreements were established, strategies for executing activities assigned to each institution were defined, and mechanisms for linking academia and industry were articulated.
The project director, Professor Radu Dobrin from Mälardalen University in Sweden, opened the event with an overview of the history and implementation of the SUCCESS project. Following this, the teams began planning the work packages for the project’s three-year duration. The sessions also included presentations on the Quality and Results Monitoring Plan by Francisco Manuel Delicado Martínez from the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, and on Dissemination and Exploitation by Aris Castillo from the Technological University of Panama.
The University of Cauca was represented by professors Miguel Ángel Niño Zambrano, Carlos Alberto Cobos Lozada, and Martha Eliana Mendoza Becerra, all affiliated with the Department of Systems in the Faculty of Electronics Engineering and Telecommunications.
Participation in this project will bring significant benefits to the University of Cauca. In terms of international projection, it will strengthen its positioning within academic and research cooperation networks with European and Latin American universities. In addition, it will allow the development of institutional capacities by enhancing competencies in co-production-based training and in creating strategic links with the productive sector. Likewise, it will facilitate access to new research and collaboration networks, promoting the establishment of alliances with other universities and sector entities. Finally, the impact on academic quality will be significant, as strategies derived from the project will contribute to innovation in training programs and teaching methodologies.
The alliance is composed of seven universities: Mälardalen University (Sweden); Åbo Akademi University (Finland); University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain); Technological University of Panama; University of Panama; University of Antioquia; and the University of Cauca.
