Students of the University of Cauca Prepare for HackaCyber 2025

The University of Cauca is strengthening its cybersecurity skills this semester within the framework of an initiative by Cisco Networking Academy, Sonda, and the Faculty of Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering, implemented by Merlin Data Technology.

This training process seeks to ensure that students of the University of Cauca take part, at the end of December, in a Hackathon called Final Capture The Flag, where they will demonstrate their talent in cybersecurity.

For Francisco Otero Mora, Commercial Director of Sonda, a partner of Cisco System Inc., “what we aim to do with this initiative is to support the university so that its students can train and obtain certification in new technologies, backed by a manufacturer such as Cisco.”

The training they are receiving this semester is related to knowledge and skills in cybersecurity, a field in which organizations currently require specialized professionals.

Professor Iván Eduardo Hernández, coordinator of the Cisco Academy of the Department of Telematics at the University of Cauca, points out that this training is aimed at students, faculty members, administrative staff, and contractors of The Alma Mater of Cauca, who are already participating in an initial phase by taking free remote courses in Introduction to Cybersecurity and Cybersecurity Fundamentals.

In a second stage, at the end of December, thirty-two students with the highest performance will be selected to participate in HackaCyber 2025. As evidence of this Company–University partnership, the members of the University of Cauca from the four programs of the Faculty of Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering who successfully complete the courses will have them validated as an elective credit.

The strong participation in the presentation of HackaCyber 2025 at the University of Cauca, as well as the number of course registrants, which reached 336 people, demonstrates the relevance of the topic and already encourages the creation of more training spaces at The Alma Mater of Cauca in cybersecurity aimed at the entire university community.
