There are professionals who do not merely practice a profession, but weave invisible bridges between people, healing silences and opening pathways toward connection with the world around them. Therefore, taking the Day of phonoaudiology’s as an opportunity, we celebrate those who, with moving sensitivity, unwavering commitment, and an inspiring vocation for service, dedicate their daily journey to rewriting the stories of communication and life of hundreds of individuals.

Every September 6, Colombia honors the memory of María Teresa Escobar Santos, a pioneer who passed away in 1974 and laid the foundations of phonoaudiology, a noble discipline. From the University of Cauca, our Alma Mater, we join this commemoration to exalt the essence of this field: a profession that goes beyond the rehabilitation of language, speech, voice, and hearing. It is a driving force for social inclusion, a catalyst that enables each individual to express themselves freely and to be heard in their full dimension. And yes, although it may not always be clear to many, phonoaudiology contributes from clinical, educational, and community perspectives to the construction of a more inclusive society, wonderful, isn’t it?

For that reason, today we want to delve into the inspiring journey of Professor María Alexandra Campo Granados. This phonoaudiology professional from Popayán, trained with excellence in Manizales, returned to her hometown in 1991 with a clear mission: to practice her profession in order to transform lives! With unwavering passion and commitment, for more than thirty years she has been a guiding light for countless children, families, and communities, bringing her knowledge and empathy to many corners, from schools to rural areas and social organizations.

Her path reflects a profound conviction, a life purpose, as she herself expresses with emotion: “I believe that what God and life had destined for me was in this profession. Today I can say with certainty that I chose a path through which I have been able to serve, learn, and transform realities.”

In addition to her extensive clinical experience, since 2000 Professor Alexandra has been part of the Phonoaudiology Program at the University of Cauca, where, beyond teaching courses, she has demonstrated the versatility of her profession.

Thus, her work transcends the classroom: she has promoted research, led learning spaces, and, with a generous heart, strengthened support for families through the radio collective Crianza Feliz, a program broadcast on Unicauca Estéreo that has become a vital dialogue with pediatricians and other professionals, addressing childhood and human development from multiple perspectives.

Her academic background, which includes a Master’s Degree in Child Development, training in Basic and Advanced Neurodevelopment in Infants from Trinity NDT Weldsolutions Private Limited, along with her current Doctorate in Human Sciences, stands as testimony to her tireless pursuit of building bridges between science and everyday life.

Through the story of Professor Alexandra, the University of Cauca celebrates and pays tribute to all phonoaudiology’s who, through their professional practice, contribute to the well-being of society. They are women and men who, with ethics, knowledge, and sensitivity, transform lives, make communication dreams come true, and strengthen each person’s right to express themselves fully. On this date, our University reaffirms its commitment to the education of well-rounded professionals who leave their mark on every community where they serve.

The University of Cauca, as #HeritageOfAll, recognizes that the work of its phonoaudiology’s is a clear demonstration of how high-quality public higher education changes destinies, creates opportunities, and builds a more humane and supportive future.
