At the University of Cauca, we are moving forward with firm steps toward institutional reaccreditation, a journey we embarked on with full commitment some time ago. Therefore, this meeting marks a milestone in the agenda projected for 2026, which includes new external evaluation processes throughout the year. All of this is framed within the consolidation of the Internal Quality Assurance System, aligned with the institutional objectives of continuous improvement.
Regarding this particular process, it is essential to remember that the Agroindustrial Engineering Program, created in 1995 through Agreement No. 040, has maintained a sustained trajectory in academic quality. It obtained its High-Quality Accreditation in 2013 and renewed this recognition in 2020, demonstrating its commitment to relevant education and regional development. For this reason, during 2025, a new self-evaluation process was carried out, allowing the identification of progress and opportunities for improvement, with a view toward renewing its accreditation.
During the visit, the academic peer reviewers analyzed crucial aspects of the program, including its academic, research, and social outreach processes, as well as its capacity for self-regulation. These are fundamental elements within the accreditation model in Colombia, a model that seeks to guarantee high standards of quality in higher education.
“Carrying out this visit shows that we have a mature and functional Internal Quality Assurance System, which supports self-evaluation and accreditation processes, both at the program and institutional levels,” stated Alexander Buendía, director of the Center for Quality Management and Institutional Accreditation.
The academic peer reviewers also toured the facilities of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the different spaces of the program, where they were able to observe firsthand the conditions under which academic and training activities are carried out. In this context, the quality of the equipment and laboratories was highlighted, as well as the availability of updated technology that supports teaching, learning, and research processes.
During the days of joint work, it became clear that this exercise not only strengthens the Agroindustrial Engineering Program, but also directly contributes to the institutional journey toward the renewal of High-Quality Accreditation. “We want to continue advancing in this shared purpose of institutional accreditation. Each self-evaluation process allows us to improve significantly and consolidate a culture of quality throughout the University,” added Dr. Buendía.
Currently, the Alma Mater from Cauca aims to achieve the accreditation of 49 academic programs by 2026, a goal that reflects the institutional commitment to strengthening its academic, research, and administrative processes. This ambition involves all members of the University of Cauca community, as together we will make history by reaching this shared destination: the renewal of our High-Quality Accreditation.
In this sense, academic peer review visits are consolidated as key scenarios for the external validation of quality, as well as opportunities for learning and continuous improvement, in which every member of this house that is #HeritageOfAll reaffirms their commitment to comprehensive education and social transformation.
Thus, the progress of the Agroindustrial Engineering Program in its accreditation renewal process adds to the institutional achievements that, within the framework of the Bicentennial, consolidate the University of Cauca as an institution that evolves, self-evaluates, and projects itself toward the future with responsibility and excellence.
