“The Dilemma of the Unsustainable” was the slogan of the 2nd International Finance and Management Meeting – EIFG2024, held at the Faculty of Accounting, Economic and Administrative Sciences of the University of Cauca on November 7 and 8, 2024. This far-reaching event was organized by the Study and Research Group in Finance and Management (GREIFG), affiliated with the same faculty, in partnership with the Ibero-American Association of Management Control and Accounting (AICOGestión).
The meeting, held as part of the celebration of the 57th anniversary of our Alma Mater’s Public Accounting program, addressed key topics such as public management and its relationship with sustainability; incentives for creativity and innovation and their link to business sustainability; carbon credits and their relationship with management control; and data analytics and its connection to finance and management in the context of sustainability.
Over the course of the two-day event, four lectures were delivered by Jeimi Maribel León Silva and Héctor Fabio Perafán Peña, both professors at the Externado University of Colombia; Jorge Andrés Salgado Castillo, from the Nueva Granada Military University; and Norma Pontet Ubal, from ORT University in Uruguay.
“This is an activity that connects directly with research training; students have the opportunity to identify the different trends within disciplinary lines or in fundamental areas of the Public Accounting program, such as finance and management.
It also helps them recognize what is being developed at other universities and which topics are currently being addressed, topics that are essential for both academic and professional practice,” stated Professor Zoraida Ramírez Gutiérrez, one of the event organizers.
In this way, we highlight the commitment of the Public Accounting program at the University of Cauca to fostering dialogue and reflection on contemporary issues.
This interest reinforces the role of our Alma Mater as a higher education institution that prepares its faculty and students to face current trends and leverage them for the benefit of the University, regional education, and the country’s development.
