Event in Popayán on Software Engineering and Quantum Computing presents research advances from the Universities in the region

Event in Popayán on Software Engineering and Quantum Computing presents research advances from the Universities in the region

The University of Cauca, the Popayán University Foundation (FUP), the Unicomfacauca University Corporation, and the Colegio Mayor del Cauca University Institution, together with their research groups and research seedbeds, carried out this event in which the challenges related to the development of innovative solutions in software engineering and quantum computing were presented.

From July 14 to 18, the Software Engineering and Quantum Computing Research Conference was held, an event organized by the University of Cauca, the Popayán University Foundation (FUP), the Unicomfacauca University Corporation, and the Colegio Mayor del Cauca University Institution.

During the Conference, which received the support of the following research groups: Logiciel (Popayán University Foundation), IDIS (University of Cauca), MIND (Unicomfacauca), and I+D en Informática (Colegio Mayor), as well as the research seedbeds SEINSOFT (Popayán University Foundation) and IRIS (University of Cauca), and the Doctorate in Electronic Sciences (University of Cauca), the exchange of knowledge was fostered, interdisciplinary research was promoted, and the academic community was strengthened through the presentation of papers, talks, and panel discussions on emerging trends, practical applications, and technological challenges that impact the development of innovative solutions in software engineering and quantum computing.

This research space made it possible to present two research networks in which the IDIS group of the University of Cauca participates: the Ibero-American Network for the Advancement of Quantum Software Engineering (RIPAISC), and AICODA: Collaborative Group Decision for Knowledge Acquisition in Agriculture Using AI Techniques.

“The RIPAISC network seeks to establish the foundations for the creation of a collaborative research initiative in the field of quantum software engineering through specific and advanced training in the subject, by developing courses and workshops, as well as new techniques and tools that facilitate the implementation of this novel technology, whose generated knowledge will be presented at international-level events. The main purpose of the network is to promote specialized training in this area and to accelerate the development of new techniques, tools, and algorithms that facilitate the adoption of quantum computing in Ibero-America,” stated Professor César Alberto Collazos, from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications and Coordinator of the Research and Development Group in Software Engineering (IDIS).

The University of Cauca professor added that RIPAISC is grounded in software engineering best practices, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the principles of open science, and is composed of different countries such as Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Portugal, and Uruguay.

For its part, the AICODA project aims to define an artificial intelligence technique to support a group involved in a decision-making process using collaborative tools within the agricultural context. “Natural language processing (NLP) techniques, preference mining tools, and collaborative work environments are being used. A collaborative platform has also begun to be developed to support farmers (those responsible for decision-making), including awareness mechanisms based on artificial intelligence,” the professor added regarding the project, in which researchers from France, Colombia, and Argentina are participating.

In this 2025 edition, the Software Engineering and Quantum Computing Research Conference included the participation of researchers from the Pontifical Javeriana University of Bogotá; CESMAG Pasto; the University of Nariño; and the University of Extremadura, Spain. It served as a space for discussion to present the research advances being carried out at the universities in the region that participated in the event, and to define lines of interest, which made it possible to structure new research proposals.
