Final stop in 2027! Discover how our exciting journey toward institutional reaccreditation is progressing

The University of Cauca community has embarked on a key journey toward institutional reaccreditation; a journey led by the Center for Quality Management and Institutional Accreditation. For this reason, given that it is a strategic process, as 2024 comes to a close, we want to share with you the achievements reached along this path, the key milestones already conquered, and the road still ahead to achieve our ambitious goal in 2027.

To begin, we would like to share that throughout our journey together in 2024, the Center for Quality Management and Institutional Accreditation developed the Self-Evaluation Model following the guidelines of the National Accreditation Council (CNA) established in Agreement 02 of 2020.

This model, which was reviewed in terms of educational quality criteria and standards, establishes the structural components that guide the essential self-evaluation process.

Subsequently, along this road trip, the Institutional Work Team, composed of four professors, approved this model and began working on several priority topics, including the methodological design of surveys, the weighting and justification of the Evaluation Factors, the collection of documentary information, and the definition of the responsible units. This led to a crucial stop: the beginning of the drafting of the self-evaluation report.

Likewise, the formalization of the Institutional Accreditation Committee through Rectoral Resolution No. 0347 of 2024 was another important stop on our journey, as this committee, made up of representatives from various academic and administrative areas, aims to lead the actions required for the renewal of Institutional Accreditation.

During its sessions, the work plan for self-evaluation was shared, and crucial aspects such as the weighting and justification of the model were approved.

Thus, as we approach the end of the year, the balance of activities carried out and the challenges for 2025, the second year of this demanding process we are navigating collectively, was presented.

Recognizing the importance of keeping our university community informed, 26 communication products were developed during this first phase of our journey in various formats, including videos, audios, images, and texts, using social media, email, the faculty newsletter Al TablerU, university screens, and the university radio as dissemination channels.

Additionally, during this stage of our journey, the Institutional Improvement Plan was reviewed and updated, allowing the integration of actions aimed at strengthening the performance of our institution. This process included requesting evidence from different departments regarding the progress of their improvement actions, achieving a 93% compliance rate, a significant milestone on the path toward our final destination: reaccreditation.

“In 2024, we achieved valuable progress in the institutional self-evaluation process. There are reasons to be proud: we have a solid model, vibrant communication, and we have successfully implemented improvements that strengthen our future. Next year, let’s join efforts to build a new and exciting chapter for our University!” expressed Dr. Alexander Buendía, Director of the Center for Quality Management and Institutional Accreditation, with great enthusiasm.

Thus, at the close of 2024, we can proudly say that along this journey we successfully reached the following milestones:

  • First, we reached a comprehensive definition of the self-evaluation model,
  • We achieved effective communication of the process, identified opportunities for improvement, and
  • We moved forward to the formal start of drafting the self-evaluation report.

In this way, we want to extend a very special thanks to every member of our university community who boarded the “accreditation bus” and who, day by day, drives forward different actions so that, together, we make history and reach our final destination in 2027: institutional reaccreditation. Can you imagine a better gift for Bicentennial Unicauca? We certainly can’t! So, we are already gearing up to continue this journey of growth and progress.
