As part of an initiative promoted by the Peace Commission and the Integral, Social, and Humanistic Training Program (FISH) of the University of Cauca, on Monday, April 7, the documentary “La Trocha. La Casa de la Paz. Our Voices and Experiences of Reintegration” was presented in the auditorium of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, an audiovisual work that invited viewers to deep reflection.

The documentary “La Trocha. La Casa de la Paz. Nuestras voces y experiencias de reincorporación” tells the story of the reintegration into civilian life of five signatories of the Final Peace Agreement, who work toward reconciliation in a central area of Bogotá. The audiovisual production, supported by the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and produced by Indyon TV, was directed by Anónimo Nadie.

Edgar Antonio López from the Javeriana University explained that the documentary showcases life at the cultural center “La Casa de la Paz” through the faces and voices of five former combatants who, while maintaining their identity, remain committed to building a more just society with equal opportunities for all. “In addition to the rich cultural life of the center, this documentary presents how the artisanal beer La Trocha is distributed there and how more than fifty products from collectives formed by signatories of the agreement, victims of the armed conflict, Afro-descendant, indigenous, and peasant communities are commercialized,” added Edgar Antonio.

After the screening of the documentary, attendees participated in a discussion with Doris Suárez from La Trocha. La Casa de la Paz, Leidy Chocué from the women’s association “Las Manuelitas”, and Jaidivier Ojeda, professor at the University of Cauca, who stated: “This space is important because it allows us to showcase the work that the reintegrated individuals are doing to remain engaged with the Peace Agreement, taking into account the challenges that have arisen in its implementation.”

This audiovisual project is the result of research in which Emilse Galvis, Juan Esteban Santamaría, and Edgar Antonio López, professors at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, collaborated with Doris Suárez, Alejandra Téllez, Alexander Monroy, David Villegas, and Sebastián Paz through a Participatory Action Research process. Funding was provided by the Organization of Catholic Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (ODUCAL) and the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council (CELAM). The screenwriter and director, “Anónimo Nadie,” worked on the documentary’s production with the IndyonTV Foundation.

Thus, this academic event highlighted the inherent challenges of reintegration processes in Colombia, as well as their importance for reconciliation and the construction of territorial peace. In this regard, the University of Cauca reaffirms its commitment to building a comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable peace that recognizes the voices of those who have been historically silenced.

It is therefore essential to support initiatives such as La Trocha: Espacio de reconciliación y construcción de memoria histórica de las mujeres, a café-bar based in Popayán. This project emerged from the drive for the economic autonomy of women who are peace agreement signatories and victims of the armed conflict, and it has become a space for encounter, dialogue, and the reconstruction of social fabric. Supporting these processes is not only an act of solidarity but also a concrete way to strengthen peace from the territories, recognizing the transformative power of women and their essential role in building new narratives for the country.
