Libertad Sublime: More than a concert, a collective call for Peace

Libertad Sublime: More than a concert, a collective call for Peace

Next Friday, September 27th, at 7:00 p.m., the Guillermo Valencia Municipal Theater in Popayán will host a night of hope and reconciliation with Libertad Sublime, a concert for Life and Peace in Cauca. The event will feature César López, creator of the Escopetarra, accompanied by the Symphonic Band and Choirs of the University of Cauca, as well as Musicians for Peace of Cauca.

The University of Cauca is, above all, a University for Peace. Aware of its responsibility as an institution located in a territory like Cauca, it has placed its knowledge and capacities at the service of building this fundamental human right. Its contribution goes beyond keeping young people away from war through higher education; it also embraces art as a key tool to transform lives and make dreams come true.

For this reason, the Alma Mater of Cauca, through its Peace Commission, has joined this call that resonates throughout the Department by supporting the Libertad Sublime concert, with the purpose of rekindling the longing for peace present in the heart of every inhabitant of Cauca. This event is supported by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge, the Ministry of the Interior, the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, Fundación PLAN, the Government of Cauca, and the Mayor’s Office of Popayán.

Thus, on the evening of Friday, September 27th, the University of Cauca will bring the Week of Research for Peace, organized by the Vice-Rectory for Research, to a close in magnificent fashion, extending a warm invitation to a sublime performance by maestros César López, creator of the Escopetarra, a powerful symbol of transformation and reconciliation, and Carlos René Ordóñez, who will conduct the Symphonic Band, the University of Cauca Choirs, and Musicians for Peace of Cauca, offering an unforgettable night at the Guillermo Valencia Municipal Theater.

“The idea is that through art we can resist the anguish and pain caused by the violent events taking place in Cauca, and it is a call for all institutions in the department to speak out in the face of this situation,” stated Deibar Rene Hurtado Herrera, Rector of the University of Cauca.

“This initiative is about embracing the entire department of Cauca, listening to the voices of resistance and to the artists who resist through their music. We hope many people will join us, because this is not about coming to watch us perform; it is a way of telling the country and telling Cauca: we stand united in what we are going through,” stated the composer of hope, César López, who on that same day will also take part in the “Culture of Peace” discussion, at 11:00 a.m. at the alternate campus of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, as part of the Week of Research for Peace.

Likewise, regarding the name chosen for this space, Diana Patricia Pito, coordinator of the Peace Commission of the University of Cauca, explains: Libertad Sublime represents that utopia of achieving the Peace that has been denied to us, a Peace that guarantees the freedom that all human beings should have in the world. Libertad Sublime is a dream of dignity, of life, of transformation, a dream that generates hope.” She also highlighted that this space is only the beginning of a series of joint actions that will continue to be developed from different fields, with the purpose of contributing to this urgent call for Peace, a call that includes everyone.

It is important to note that the doors of the Guillermo Valencia Municipal Theater will open at 6:00 p.m., until full capacity is reached. For this reason, arriving early is recommended in order to enjoy this unforgettable experience, where 120 musicians on stage, with each note, will rekindle the longing for Peace that beats in our hearts.

Thus, this regional house of thought, where Peace is conceived, taught, and enacted, awaits you with open arms to join together in one voice for Libertad Sublime, next September 27th.

The Guillermo Valencia Municipal Theater awaits you!
