Professor Luis Alexander Peña López, faculty member of the Physiotherapy program at the University of Cauca and part of the Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy and Critical Care area, has recently led two academic mobility initiatives for tenth-semester students enrolled in the Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy elective and the clinical rotation in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy.
These activities, carried out in collaboration with different Higher Education Institutions, provide a unique opportunity for learning and up-to-date training in specialized areas of physiotherapy.
On November 5 and 6, students from the University of Cauca’s Physiotherapy program traveled to CES University in Medellín, where they participated in an academic exchange with students from that institution. During the visit, they attended training sessions on key topics such as heart–lung interaction, non-invasive mechanical ventilation, and the management of artificial airways.
These activities, led by Professor Peña López, allowed students to strengthen their knowledge through hands-on workshops and direct interaction with students from another university recognized in the health field.
Likewise, on November 7 and 8, the students enrolled in the clinical rotation in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy had the opportunity to participate in a new academic mobility experience, this time at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) in Bucaramanga. Aiming to strengthen their competencies in critical patient care, the students took part in workshops on lung ultrasound, exercise prescription for the critically ill patient, and mechanical ventilation, sessions in which faculty members from the University of Cauca and UIS shared their knowledge and expertise.
These experiences enrich the students’ academic training, allowing them to engage with current clinical practices and strengthening their ability to apply evidence-based interventions.
The University of Cauca remains committed to excellence in the training of its students, offering learning opportunities that prepare them to face the challenges of cardiopulmonary physiotherapy and critical care in their professional practice.
